As some of you may no i am colony breeding and 2 of my babies who are sisters (my last years babies) have started nesting in the same nest box together. They are both lutino and look exactly the same. One male is going and feeding both of the hens in the same nest. Then eggs were laid. With them both being in the same nest box i dont no whos eggs are whos but they are both sitting on them at the same time. So two days ago one of the eggs hatched. Both the hens are still in the nest box and are both feeding the chick? Is this normal for sisters to ever do that i thought they would be terretorial like the other hens but these seem to be the best of friends. Its so strange

I love lutinos, I also got 2, 1 is a mature hen and 1 is still 2 young to tell, I can't wait till mine starts laying eggs, she's already nest active, good idea with putting the marble in though, when would you say would be the best time to put the marble in the nestbox

It's nice that they are getting on well enough to bring up chicks together

I have never experienced this but I have heard of it from two ladies on two different times where two sisters shared the nest box with eggs and chicks. It happens when two budgie sisters are together since their hatching. What I can't understand is why this always happens with female breeders ;D

Fantastic!
Are the chicks lutinos too? (I could only spot the red eyes of one of them)

Not very common, and not unheard of in colony breeding. There have been cases where budgies will lay an egg or two in one nesting box, a couple more in another, etc. and lots of different hens eggs are in each nesting box. Things like this can happen when you colony breed (if you don't care about knowing exactly who the parents are to each chick and stuff, then it's not a big deal though:))

Wow! Lucky baby budgies! They have two mums looking after them! I have never heard of this before. I supose it doesn't matter though, as long as they all get along!

Love this pic. How sweet sharing the nest and their babies. They must trust each other very much.

Love this pic. How sweet sharing the nest and their babies. They must trust each other very much. And they are talking. "The right one is yours and left one is mine"
