Just taken himself back into his cage, looking like butter wouldn't melt. Little tinker

Good boy, Bramble. No bribery required!

Yep, complete false sense of security. Yesterday, no need to go anywhere, we had all the time in the world. Today he's perched on the curtain rail, been there for 45 mins already and doesn't look like he has any intention of taking himself back home any time soon. I need to go out in 2 hours, little monkey . Can I say … “told ya”??

He's doing well thanks jellybean. He's a happy wee soul but still quite nervous. I've never seen a budgie eat so quickly - he aims for the minimum time with his head in the food pot - I'm sure Hezz previously described budgie table manners as 'cautiously enthusiastic' or something similar and that's exactly what he's like I haven't offered him much in the way of fresh veg yet as his poos are still a bit watery. Carrot, basil and chard are all a definite 'no' but he tucked straight in to a tiny sprig of chickweed. I think the egg-food was being thrown rather than eaten but he's happy with his seed mix and I'm still managing to find seeding grasses which he loves. I decided to go for the S76 in the end and he had his first dose in his water today. He'll get it again tomorrow and the next day. After that he'll have it 2 days/week for the following 3 weeks. After finishing this weeks doses my plan was to give him Guardian Angel in his water but I'm not sure about the dosage so I'll post that in a separate thread. He's still wary of hands - it's amazing how far a budgie can stretch to reach a piece of millet in order to avoid stepping onto the hand holding it He's not wanted to come out for the last couple of days despite much coaxing with millet, once in the 'flight room' he's just been sitting happily in his cage, grinding his beak. I've tried different times of day in case he was just tired and I've tried for hours at a time but I guess he just didn't feel like it so I'm not going to push it. I don't think he's been used to being out much at all and he doesn't seem to know how to play with his toys but I think it'll come with time, especially once he can see Willow playing. I can't wait for them to get together I'm already mixing their names up though. I wouldn't stand a chance with more than 2

To coax new budgies out in the past I have clipped the millet in the doorway, with just a tiny bit that they can reach and the rest, just out of reach.

I am wondering if I should do s76 but it is mega expensive.
Max turned his nose up at millet
I think sometimes they eat the way they do, depending on where they came from and if it was grab quick and go, or lose out type of thing

Thanks Marianne Marlow, I'll try that this morning if he's still reluctant. ffiscool I got the S76 and Guardian Angel from Fab Finches to try to offset the postage costs rather than buying them from separate companies. Bramble is drinking the treated water no problem. Maybe you could hold off on treating Max as he doesn't have any symptoms? I bet Max will come round to millet pretty soon

he is not bothered at the mo... but yes, he will I am sure
he is not remotely afraid of my hands, but still just mainly sits in one place.. i just put the mirror back. will see if he goes over

So many new buds! This is so exciting! I’m glad the name Bramble stuck, I love it, and it does go very nicely with Willow 💚

Thanks Morgan I hope you and your flock are well. Any new additions for you? I am already muddling the two names. I called someone Wimble today which means that Brillow is also highly likely to pop out of my mouth before long. Maybe I just need 2 more buds for these 2 names and then I'll have all my bases covered Not sure how anyone manages with a bigger flock. I'd be resorting to squawky-pants, cheeky-monkey etc on a daily basis.

Thanks Morgan I hope you and your flock are well. Any new additions for you? Nope! Been sticking with the eight, and my two linnies. I think that’s plenty of little birdies for one bird room! I have been raising a lot of baby chicken chicks though. 😁 Building new pens for the chickens has delayed the eventual aviary for the parrots, but it will happen eventually… in the meantime the fires are making our air too smoky for me to feel comfortable taking them outside anyway.

That sounds like plenty to keep you busy and lots of fun taking care of the new chicks too! Sorry to hear about the fires and smoke, it definitely sounds like they will all be safer indoors. I hope that the fires are resolved soon.

Haven't been on for a while so missed this willowsmum. Congratulations on your stunning new addition. Just LOVE the greenies! I have four, all different shades of green. love the name too! I coaxed my newbies by holding a spare perch (mine was a piece of apple branch) in the cage, in the training room and getting them to step up. After a couple of days of stepping up onto the branch, you could bring the branch out into the room to enable them to have a fly round. To get them back it was either get them to step up and put them back, or wait for them to go back on their own. It worked quite well for me, last time I trained two at the same time, in the bathroom, several places for them to land and they had lots of exercise and went back home quite easily. Usually!!! They now all use the perch really well! Now called 'the training stick'!!!
