I have a lot of love for Mango, she's such a precious little bird. Loki, you need to play nice, you attention-hogging trickster! I'm worried every morning that I'm going to uncover Gwen to find the worst waiting for me (feeling reassured because I just heard her move). On one hand, if you're going to be so broody that you starve yourself, that's sort of natural selection right there, but also in a natural environment she'd probably have found a willing male by now and gotten over it. I probably should have insisted on a hand feeding formula, at least to give a little bit of, so as not to discourage her from feeding herself too much. I just hope the vet was right that she must be eating to still be here.

Really hope she picks up soon Ira. It’s horrible to be so worried but a good thing she hasn’t lost any weight. Come on Henny Gwenny, be a good girl for your mum and gobble some food.

She has done a few more poos so she must be eating something. I'm popping in and out to chat to her between chores and chilling out elsewhere. She does a kangaroo impression along the bottom of the cage whenever you go to leave the room. I uncovered her at 8 so she's got until between 2pm and 4pm before I have to cover her back up.

That's great news. I hope she keeps up the eating now. It's so worrying for you.

Well I weighed her and she's lost weight again and her keel feels rather prominent. So whether she's eating a little bit or not I'm afraid it's syringe feeding time. I've emailed the vet for advice, and I've ordered some recovery formula but I can't get that until Sunday. Currently syringe feeding mashed banana and stewing some apples to make a paste. I might be able to blend some corn to a suitable consistency too, or make a paste from the pellets.
Any other ideas?
Damn having to work tomorrow. I'll just have to get up super early to feed her. No point worrying about how many hours of darkness she's getting when she's liable to just starve to death. You'd think that would snap her out of it. Unless she just has a naturally very dark cere and is just being a contortionist and not trying to rub her shoulders on everything in some form of bizarre mating thing. I didn't even think that she might be doing something like that, seeing as Peri always used to be flipping himself around in the cage corner.

what a worry.. I don't know what to suggest food wise, other than whatever has most nutrition/calories.. maybe mash in some millet or something too?
agree re the darkness, lightness thing
I hope you get some food inside her

She'll swallow it if I get it in her beak, so that's something at least.

And, somewhat ironically, she'll likely use less energy outside of the cage because she'll sit on a head and be reasonably chill, as opposed to running about like a demonic child. As if it wasn't bad enough wondering what I can leave the boys to nibble on all day without causing them repeated bouts of trichomonas or letting them overeat dry foods and get fat.

She's munching away on some millet I'm holding, thank goodness. Maybe the banana made her realise that she was hungry.
We have a routine with the boys at least. It's just the block of time when we're in work, between them eating breakfast and OH coming home. We were leaving them chunks of carrot and broccoli to nibble but I don't know if that's what's caused the trichomonas again, unless it was still lingering from last time.

Sorry she’s lost weigh Ira. It must be really worrying. But she has eaten so you know she can and let’s hope she’ll choose to carry on attacking the millet. Hopefully she’ll pick up and slot into your routine with the boys in just a few weeks time. I’ve got everything crossed.

Just catching up with Gwen the Hen! Gosh, what a load of worries she’s given you already! I really hope once she starts eating, she realises how hungry she is. And that she calms down soon!

Sorry to hear Gwen's lost weight. Such a roller coaster for her and you. I really hope she starts eating better soon.
