Hello friends.. not sure if any of you might recall a post I made quite a bit back about my Felice having an issue with flying due to a suspected fracture to one of the bones in his shoulder.. I have done every thing the avian vet has said to do (we've been back twice) kept my little guy in his little cage for longer than she recommended.. and still that darn wing twitches a bit. Yet my fella sings, talks, dances, acts a fool, eats, drinks.. normal. Twp days ago He said enough he wanted out.. he usually sits atop of one of his cages plays/sleeps etc) I use an old iphone as a large screen tv for him and have it on youtube with running stream & nature sounds.. we change it up (he likes Vivaldi as well) you get the picture.. he is eccentric Anyhoo I just can't stand that his wing keeps twitching & still unable to fly.. so I have called the vet again and taking him in again on tues, but this time I have to drop him off and leave him. She will administer a wee bit of gas so she can take xrays just to see exactly where/what is going on with that wing and be sure it is what she suspects. If so, the dr said it may be he may never fly again.. but what concerns me is his wing twitching.. I feel that it is trying to get back into place, or perhaps he is in pain.. even though I would never know it. Anyhoo.. Has anyone had a bird go under gas? has anyone had a bird with a twitching wing? Has anyone had a bird with a fractured wing and fly again? I am so nervous for my little guy to go under gas.. but on the other hand what if the rays show something that could help him? My guy will be 5 in May . Many thanks for anyone's input.

Sorry for Felice's troubles and doubly sorry I cannot help with advice or the benefit of experience but I wish both of you the best of luck. I hope the vet can come up with a solution or at least, a full explanation.
Gas is a risk for our little feathered fellows but sometimes it is the lesser one. I trust that the vet's assessment of risk/reward is sound but more importantly, I hope you can trust it.
Best wishes.

Good luck with the vet. I’m not sure that she’d be in pain if eating, singing, dancing etc. the vet will confirm.
Please let us know how it goes

An experienced avian vet will make sure that he is well hydrated and oxygenated before administering the anaesthetic, so the risks should be minimal as long as there are no other medical problems. A good vet would not suggest the procedure if they didn’t think he would be fine. I guess all depends on how much faith you have in your vet.

Hiya Marianne.. I'm so sorry for not getting back to this post sooner. Felice made out very well at the vet's last week. And he actually still has some of the tape (I call it his cast lol) on. Thankfully I went with my gut and did the gas/xrays because his injury was a bit more serious than what the vet initially thought. He does have a small fracture on his scapula and there was something with the joint/ball joint deep down.. this is what I believe kept his wing twitching. He was like a monkey when I got him home when he was coming off the gas and pain meds.. wow! Anyhoo I take him back in Friday morning. not sure if the dr will take remaining tape off from him at that point or not. His wing looks great.. completely stopped twitching & in place as it should be. So that part is fantastic. We will just have to wait and see if he will be able to fly again. so stay tuned! I am just relived that his wing is clearly healed/healing.

That is so great. When we hadn't heard from you, I was worried that something bad had happened. Amazing news that he is healing

Hiya all.. Thank you so much for checking in. So today we went back in to see the Dr & a bit bummed.. (Felice probably more than I am). Dr took off the remaining tape and his wing still had quite a droop so she felt he needed another week taped up..so she re taped him- She did say his wing is quite stiff and is isn't very optimistic that he will fly again. Massive bummer to hear- but for now I will let that in one ear & out the other because who knows.. maybe he will fly again. Regardless, if he flies or not.. he is incredibly loved. Update next week my friends & thank you all again for the support!

I'm sure you will make his life as fulfilling for him as you can, whether he flies again or not.

I suppose too, while taped, it gives him more support until better. It must be like anything, if you’re strapped up, it’s stiff. But never say never, he might be able to loosen it with flapping etc once tape gone.
Indeed he’ll still have the best life with you, whichever way it goes

While it would be lovely for him to be able to fly again, it isn’t the end of the world, as long as he can bring himself to accept what isn’t to be. You don’t want him hurting himself thinking he can but not being able to.
