At one point I just had Indie, who would come to my hand for food but wasn't tame otherwise, and he hated coming out of the cage. He didn't seem suited to single bird life so I got Yuki and hoped that Yuki would encourage Indie to come out and play. Yuki spent all of quarantine jumping out of the quarantine cage when I didn't want him to because I was busy, but then when he met Indie he also refused to come out because he wanted to be with Indie. I ended up doing things like putting their food on a table near their open cage door, or herding them out of the cage, and shutting the cage door so that they had to explore. These days Indie is always the first one of the flock out to play.

There's no question in my mind that budgies teach each other things, be it what foods can be enjoyed, to "Is the world outside the cage safe?" to whether that big, scary human's head can be used as a perch in an emergency.

When the time comes to introduce the birds to each other, if you intend for both to occupy the cage your hen is in you could be asking for trouble. Hens are notoriously territorial and don’t take to strangers in their house very well. She could well injure your new boy, or worse. It you are thinking of getting a bigger cage for the two birds, do so but put your new boy in there, not the hen. Then, once quarantine is over, and they have gotten used to each others’ presence outside the cage, the hen can be introduced to the new cage as the incomes, not the current resident. If she is already in the bigger cage, change them over immediately and have her reside in the smaller of the cages until quarantine is over (four weeks).
As for he other question of whether the second budgie becomes less tame when the two come together, then yes initially but a lot depends on how much time you put into interacting with both birds. If you keep the training happening after they are housed together and work through the initial disinterest, my experience is that you can get back to what you had previously achieved relatively easily.

Hezz loz Thanks for advice and knowledge. I intended on getting a bigger cage so will do and will put him in there and her in the smaller cage for abit and go from there. Really hoping they will get along but I guess if all else fails they can stay separated as I have got an attachment with both of them, they are my lil babies 😊
