Unfortunately Rose passed away yesterday morning:( She had eye feathers which grew inwardly into her eyeball so had to go to the vets frequently for her feathers to be trimmed back and for the last fortnight was being treated with steroid eyedrops. Before that she was treated with fucithalmic eyedrops on and off for a long time. She had been suffering with digestive problems for some time which the vet and I thought was because irritated eye caused her much stress as did the treatment:( She had maintained a good weight despite her problems mainly due to Cyril who was her diligent carer for the last 20 months or so. She was also a happy bird who loved all the attention that Cyril gave her:) Cyril loves a needy hen to look after and cared for Poppet (a sickly rescue) for 2 years until she passed on. Rose is in a better place now and lives on through her grown up hen chick 'Bump' who fortunately hasn't inherited those nasty eye feathers Cyril is back in the aviary searching out his next patient! Bless him x

Sorry to hear about Rose. She had to suffer too much but thankfully her eye will not hurt her again. You and Cyril cared for her well.

Thanks BudgiesBuddy and Ruth:) I sort of knew she couldn't live a long life like she was and am glad that Cyrils got his life back in the aviary as he had to be caged with her for a while. Given the care he gave his 2 hens over the last 4 years he does seem to get over them very well!
