Also I tend to get mixed up with yellowface varieties. In those photos there seems to be a bit of yellow in the body which makes me think maybe single factor type 2 instead, but I could be wrong. Or he might be clearwing? There's a lot that goes into a rainbow budgie.

There seems to be a very slight yellow tinge around the body and wings so perhaps a Type 2. Wings look a little greywing to me but faintly so - maybe dilute? Beyond my pay grade this one!

Thanks Ira - it's so complicated!!! If anyone asks I'm going to have to stick with 'rainbow' but it's so interesting to know about all of the mutations involved. loz his wing primaries are definitely edged in pale grey, his tail feathers are a very pale yellow but also have a grey tinge at the tip.

Main tail feathers of a greywing should be blue, grey or a combination of both, so doubt he is greywing with yellow tail feathers. I’d say more likely dilute. I think his yellow face is too bold for a single factor type 1. I think more likely type 2. He’s a very pretty little bird and very lucky one from the sounds of things. He will love being at yours, willowsmum. I like Rowan as a name for him; you can’t call him Yew!

Just read on Mr Google.
Rowan...."The Rowan's wood is strong and resilient"
Two things this little guy must have been to brave that cold Aberdeen weather.

What a cute little guy! I also think male. As for names, I’m not sure, but if you like Yew, you could go for Ewan - Scottish and all. My Ivo’s name means an archer from the yew tree (I just like medieval names which is why I chose it though).

Thanks all and thanks Hezz. This is so far over my head now Hey, yew, stop that!! Come here Yew! Yep, definitely going to be a bit odd ariella tweetiepiesmom jellybean I know both a young Ewan and a Rowan who are little b***ers so I can't go for that unfortunately. It's strange how just one bad experience with a name in the past is enough to put you off it for good.

Ohhh what a beautiful boy he is Well done for rescuing him. I would have to go for something a bit exotic here with names, he just reminds me of beautiful faraway places

It might be already suggested, and I’ve missed it, but if he’s a rainbow or near to one, what about Beau (as in rain beau)

Just a quick update to let you know that we settled on the name Meadow although as per normal I am now mixing all 3 bud names up when speaking to them. It may all go pear-shaped once I-do-what-I-want-Bramble gets his claws into him but at the moment Meadow is doing brilliantly, doing a few laps of the bedroom each day, stepping up with/without millet, sitting on my hand listening to me chat to him for long periods, he even let me pick him up using the infamous Hezz video technique! I suspect I'm being lulled into a false sense of security The only blip was on Christmas day. We were out for a couple of hours and returned to find spots of blood on the cage bars. It took me a while to work out what had happened but it looks like he caught a toenail in one of his toys (now removed) and ripped the end of the nail off as it was definitely missing it's tip and it now ends in a tiny dark area which I guess is a clot. We were lucky it was just the tip and that he didn't loose too much blood. He's very acrobatic in the cage, always squeezing himself into small spaces so I can see how it may have happened. We are going to have to make sure everything is super safe once he's with Willow and Bramble. I suspect he's going to test the limits of toys/areas which they take absolutely no notice of. Having said that he's often so quiet and calm, just sitting and listening to his surroundings. As I said, false sense of security

Other than his nail, it sounds like Meadow is right at home. Looking forward to pics and when they meet

Glad he is doing well with you in his quarantine time. Make the most of this relatively quiet and peaceful time, while it lasts! the name Meadow sounds so lovely and peaceful - hopefully a self-perpetuating prophesy.
