Thanks lozffiscool you're right, it's stupidly hot. I cannot imagine taking Max on a car journey to the vet in 30C heat. He found it hard to cope with far less than that.

Thank you. I hope he can stay with us and be well for a long time yet. RE: the weather. I hate it, it's unbearable outside. The budgies have a bath out and I misted some of them. Poor little Max. I'm pulling for you to get well. Its hot here also, they're calling it the 'September Sizzle".

Sorry to hear this Marianne, I guess if he is still happy at times then he isn’t feeling too bad. X

It's abysmally hot. Indie's perched on his swing with his wings out.
I hope Max picks up. :/

Lumps are always a worry as we know M. I think you’ve done the right thing in stopping the antibiotics for the moment, it could be those that are upsetting his stomach, that and the stress of the medicating. It will be interesting to see if his poops settle in a day or so. A probiotic now maybe to get the good bacteria back in his tummy. With the lump I think it’s a waiting game, ive had some live a good quality of life for a couple of years or so with limpoma’s but of course it could be different if it’s cancerous. I think if he seems happy and eating let him be, anything intrusive could all be too much for him 🙁

Thank you skysmum I gave them avipro avian in their water yesterday and today - I believe it has a prebiotic and probiotic. I'll give it for a week and see how things are. I'm glad you have said what I was thinking myself it's made me feel a bit better. I hope his droppings become more normal as at the moment they are worse than Billy's. Billy's are just sludge, have been for 2 years now.

Poor Max. I'm glad he's still playing and singing. It's such a worry. I quite agree that it's far to hot to take him back to the vets, especially when you know what the vet is likely to suggest. I hope his digestion settles down now the antibiotics have stopped.

If he has liver issues it would not be surprising for him to develop a lipoma, they are not always just under the skin. I would increase his milk thistle or even look into the other liver supplements that others have been given to try over the years. Sorry, can’t recall what they are but I seem to remember that Ira might have been using something at one stage, sweetpea also. They may be prescription-only, I don’t know. There isn’t much info to go on, I don’t know what else to suggest.

Yuki was prescribed lactulose with milk thistle, which he is still on. Previously he was on destolit as well.
Both were prescribed by the vet. But the first you could probably make up easily enough yourself. Except that you would have to syringe it into his beak.

I've read that prescription guidance for vets has changed. For any prescription medication, a veterinarian examination is first required. No more phoning or video-calls to obtain, eg, antibiotics. Also applies to meds where the dosage is linked to the weight of the animal. I've not confirmed this with my usual vet so take with a pinch of salt, for now.

I also have Nutramarin+ capsules that you sprinkle on food. Supposed to be similar to the milk thistle tincture but faster acting. Not sure if prescription only - a quick google & it seems it's only stocked by vets, although it's possible it still doesn't need a prescription. I hope Max feels better soon. Agree to NOT take him to the vet in this heat.

Hopefully, because Max has been examined not long ago, the vet could prescribe, based on pictures of poop too. The lactulose and milk thistle if he won’t, he could advise proportions surely.
The other he may have a view on and give advice
🤞
