The boys got to bed really nicely. Aster didn't mind the plastic swing. And for the first time in a year and a half Dexter didn't call me back like he usually does and I felt so much happier leaving him knowing he wasn't alone This is the sweetest post. I'm so pleased for Dexter. Also love the not being able to answer the phone 😂

skysmum At least Aster and Rito already know one another. Hopefully that will help, and hopefully the week alone will mean Aster gets to keep his beak bashing friendship. criswell said probably next weekend to me. She has also, oh so kindly , said that she will graciously allow me to catch Rito, as I'll be collecting Gwen anyway.

Dexter is like a different bird too, not just because he's not on his own but I don't think he's been this relaxed with any if his other cage mates. It is just the loveliest seeing them together.

Aster and Dexter are a good match, just as Aster and you are a good match. Happiness all around.

skysmum We are going to bring Rito down at the weekend. I think Aster and Dexter will stay good friends. I've not seen Aster interact like this with Rito. When they've been out of the cage upstairs Aster was always first to go back in and I often saw him singing to himself, or to a cage clip or the shiny catch on the cage. I'm sure they'll both be happy to play with Rito too. He will certainly want to play with them. It will be much kinder to Rito to have Ira catch him. He's very wary of me since I caught Aster. There was much chasing about. He won't even take millet from me if I'm next to the cage. He'll fly over if I'm either sitting on the bed or more than an arms length away from the cage. He'll never speak to me again if I have to catch him! We will miss having Gwen here but Ira will be very pleased to have her back, and it will be lovely that Gwen and Indie will be reunited. Gwen and Indie will be very welcome to have another holiday with us whenever they'd like to.

They'll find their feet, I'm sure. Aster's responding so well to Dexter. I only ever really saw him with Smudge with any frequency. I wondered if that was their similar colouring. Rito will want to interact, I'm sure. And he and Aster know one another but aren't super close, so we'll see what happens. It'll be good to have Gwen back and try to get some sense of normality now that I'm not worried that the house will spontaneously ignite. I'm looking forward to watching the reunion. Though not bed times. I'll try to remember to bring my budgie-nabbing hoodie along. Hopefully we won't end up with the type of catvh that looks like I've just squashed a budgie against the bars. (Looks more dramatic than it is, I swear, given that I've never hurt any of them) And we'll be able to give Aster and Dexter our regards.

Don’t worry about having three together; even numbers are over-rated in my opinion. I’ve often ended up with three and while two might be firmer friends than with the other one, that one has never been left out, alone and lonely. They do swap around for chats or all chat together. But I’m preaching to the converted I feel; you’ve had three together before.

I have had three together and they got on ok. Randolph Carter was a bit of a bully and Dean Stockwell was a bossy budgie and they still got on alright, so I'm sure the new trio will too. One benefit of 3 budgies is that it gives one budgie the chance to chill out while the other 2 are being busy.

I’ve found just that with my three, if one wants down time the other two have each other, it does work really well 😊 Looking forward to the next chapter 😊

Dexter and Aster had a very busy day yesterday. Lots of flying about, playing and singing. Dexter is so excited he's been bouncing about round Aster all day. He's been trying to encourage Aster to land on top of the speaker by sitting up there calling for him and Aster finally managed to land there last night. Dexter still had time to come over to chat to me a couple of times during the day. He's no longer telling us it's his bedtime as he's too busy playing, but when I shut the cage doors and turn the lights down they both get up on their swings like good boys.
I'm excited about Rito joining them. Dexter definitely has enough enthusiasm for two budgies.

I suspect the greatest fear in this situation is that Dexter might forget about you (although I was confident he wouldn't). I remember Mr Hibs' excitement when he went from singleton budgie to being in charge of a flock. He never forgot me and always makes time for me during his busy day.
