jellybean, OH says his mental health took a beating over the whole affair. Thing was I didn’t want him to do it anyway, was prepared to pay to have someone come in and take over. But on no. “We’ve done this before”, he says. “We know what we are doing”, he says. “It’ll be easy this time”, he says. 😬 yeah, nah. Everything that could possibly go wrong, did, and then there were the things that weren’t anticipated - the joys of being an amateur. But it is finished and does look pretty good, if you think like a bird!! skysmum, about one third of the roof is covered with UV reflective polycarbonate sheeting, and will say that it works - very cool under it, and don’t block any light. My one worry is that it is not going to be quite deep enough to provide a dry place when the rain is lashing. If we have to revisit it, we can rather easily and the sheets, if we need to add are both relatively cheap and easy to cut, and strong. So, all birds slept outside last night. I still don’t feel confident that they found the water pots or the seed pots where I want to use them. I caved in going on dark and added some in the little cage that I’ve put in in case they want to sleep “inside” something. OH made Loki a great little timber foraging/sleeping box, only I found I had to put a ladder up on the outside so that he can climb out of it. getting in is easy enough as it is half filled with his goodies, same with getting back up to the top, but climbing out onto flat was interesting to watch, to say the least. Why doesn’t a bird just fly when something is juuuust out of reach??

Are they going to be outside all the time now Hezz? No, M. In and out some days, but it is easier to have someone else come in to feed and water if they aren’t inside the house, and also if others want some bird-sitting done. It also give us options at times like Xmas when using the third bedroom as a bedroom, not bird-room, comes in handy. Loki let out his first screech yesterday morning at around 5.40am and the budgies stayed out there last night as well, woke me at 5.30am. Bunji is a very loud budgie. For these reasons alone, all the time outside wouldn’t work. The little boys are being stubborn about going to where I’ve put the seed and water which is why I left them in for the full 24+hrs. I had hoped that a full day to explore would give them time to find their food, but the fact that the little millet bobbles were still in situ showed that they hadn’t ventured to the row of pots. Loki has found everything, so I’m not too worried about him
