Long shot but I said I'd try. Polly is 30 years old, a female. She "can scream, sing, swear, talk and argue", I'm reliably informed. Sounds to me like she's been well looked after but the family have an autistic boy who cannot cope with her. She comes with cage, toys & food. No way I could take her on, my hands are very full. Can anyone help? West Sussex based.

Would she settle/bond with another family assuming she's been with this family for so long?

Would she settle/bond with another family assuming she's been with this family for so long? I only have a second-hand account of what is going on - it isn't easy to hear about it. Polly was owed by the mum but the mum wants to get rid of Polly as the autistic son is upset by her. The daughter has taken ownership and is being pressured by the mum to get rid of Polly one way or the other. If there was any way, I'd take Polly, if only temporarily. I have my hands more than full here and I've no space for another parrot who may need to lifve separately from the budgie flock.

I've asked if my friend Hayley, who has an aviary as well as room in the house and experience with a bunch of different species of birds has any room for her.
We could take her temporarily but the house isn't anywhere near ready for us to house another bird long-term.

I hope they find someone soon, I think she would settle if she goes to a home with experience of older birds maybe a little peace and quiet would be good for her - by that I mean that as the lad gets upset so would the parrot. I know the lad can’t help it, bless him.

Poor girl. I hope she does find a new home soon.

More pics - the cage Polly would come with: Another of Polly: I understand that Polly has no known health issues, no problems with strangers and no known preference for men or women.

It's not finally finalised but it looks like a home has been found for Polly. I won't say more until it's certain but it looks good for her future!

I hate to say this and I feel awful for the folks involved in trying to help a parrot in need ... and I feel doubly awful for Polly ... but this has fallen through.
The current owner has insisted upon impossible conditions for rehoming so there's no more I can do for Polly.
The forum member who helped - thank you so much for your efforts and I'm so, so sorry for the uncomfortable situation you're now in.
Some hard lessons learned for people here.

Oh, no. I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for everyone involved, especially Polly. It must be hard for an owner to rehome a pet they've had for 30 years but setting impossible conditions is going to make it really hard for Polly to find a new home. Maybe when it comes down to it the owner doesn't really want to part with her. I hope everything works out well for Polly in the end. Thank you for trying to help.

I don't have proof of this but I get a vibe that the owner wanted a local rehome and my suspicion is this is so that she could reclaim Polly at a future date.
I think Polly came to her current home because her original one couldn't or wouldn't care for her any longer. Such a sad history.
