Yep, it is We got a new nesting box so there are now 3 boxes for 3 pairs. As I said Lilly and Gilbert had a nesting box but I saw Lilly go into the new one. Will she choose 1 and leave the other for another pair? She won't take 2 will she? Nicola

Good luck Nicola!! When you say your first pair is "quite old", how old are they out of curiosity?

Thanks BB. Hi Zo As I said they are old. The cock is about 8-9 and the hen is about 5-6. We probably won't get any chicks, but they have had a fertile egg before. We really only put a nesting box in for them so they don't get jealous and kill another pairs chicks. I have had a hen do that before, and as you have probably realized, I colony breed. Nicola

Seems fair enough, if they've produced a fertile egg before then it's worth a shot

New update! Tess and Dave have laid an egg! Her first one she laid it on the ground but the second one was in the box! I have been away in Canberra for 3 days (I am back now) so I haven't had a chance to look, but I think she was due to lay another egg on Thusday and Saturday (today)

Yes they are BB. I had a look today and she now has 2 eggs. I haven't seen them mate once so it's not looking promising On a brighter note though, Lillywas dipping her back when I went out there this morning, and Gilbert attempted to mate. They first 2 times he fell off, but the 3rd time he got on but I don't think it was successful as he is a bit smaller than her so it will probably take time for him to learn. Isn't it funny how they just know how to mate straight away?! Nicola

Yay! Egg number 1 from Lilly.
But I don't think she sat on it during the night. Is that normal?

Some hens start to incubate from 2nd or 3rd egg.

Phew!!!
Hi BB. When you candle eggs, do you have to use a pen light? Or could you use a bright torch?
Also, when an egg is laid do they all look infertile until they are about 5-7 days old? Or do the fertile ones look fertile straight away?
Sorry for all the questions!
Nicola
