Ok thanks BB. I think she will give it up. Hopefully before any chicks hatch... (if the eggs are fertile)

Yes they can be. But at least they look fertile in the pictures. A least it is a start!

Thanks BB. Me too When candling the eggs, do you have to pick them up, or can you leave them where they were and just shine the torch close to the egg? Will fertile or infertile eggs still be able to be determined? Nicola

You can do them in both ways. I don't like to hold the egg.

Hi all NEW UPDATE! Egg number 4 from Lilly Yay! Tess have 4 eggs (did have 5 but I took one infertile egg and gave it to another hen to keep her occupied from annoying Lilly which didn't work!) Lilly's first egg is 7 days old. Looking forward to candling it in the next few days Not sure about how old Tess's first egg is, but it is older than Lilly's. Fingers xxx Nicola

Hi all. Lilly is due to lay her 5th egg tomorrow Date laid and hatching dates: 1st egg laid-1/4/12 hatch date-22/4/12 2nd egg laid-3/4/12 hatch date-24/4/12 3rd egg laid-5/4/12 hatch date-26/4/12 4th egg laid-7/4/12 hatch date-28/4/12 5th egg??? The egg hatch date is, as you have probably realized, 21 days from when it was laid. As you all know it takes 18-21 days for a budgie egg to hatch. The date I have put down it the latest it should hatch (if they are fertile.) Nicola
