She's been having seizures for about a month now but she seems to be getting worse so I'm wondering if it's kinder to have her put to sleep? Nothing can really be done to treat seizures can it? She seemed happy at first between the seizures but this last couple of days she looks miserable and I'm wondering if it's time to let her go?

I'm afraid my knowlegde of seizures is zero, but Barrie has this page on his website www.officialbarrieshuttbudgerigars.com/seisures.htmI suppose it depends on how frequent they are and how severe as to whether you need to make the decision. You know your bird better than anybody so I'm sure you'll make the right decision for her. I'm sorry you are having this happen:(

Thanks Nat. She's sat holding onto the cage bars with her beak because she's scared of falling off the perch. I can't see her ever getting better from this to be honest so I'm thinking it would be kinder to let her go. Her cage mate is a year older than her (She's around two) and he's absolutely fine so I don't think it's anything infectious or anything they have nibbled in the cage that has poisoned her.

Maybe a visit to a vet will give you some peace of mind, Jan. Sometimes we know what the right thing to do is, but just need someone else to confirm it for us. As Nat said, you know the bird best and are in the best position to decide, but sometimes we all need a little help. Good luck.

Once a birds quality of life has gone we must make that decision ourselves Jan

Thank you everyone for your kindness. I've made the appointment and I'm in tears here, I hate having animals put to sleep although I know it's for the best but making that decision is so hard. My other half is taking her though as when I had to have our hamster put to sleep I was in tears at the reception so I think it's better if he takes her.

Thanks Barrie.xxx I've just said goodbye to her. I really hope I'm making the right decision but she can't get better from this can she? She just looks like the blue budgie with the yellow head at the top of the forum, she was so beautiful.

She's now gone to the bridge and has been buried in our garden. Our vet (who is an Avian vet) said he thought it was more nerve damage in her legs than brain damage as she was holding her head up okay. He said he thought I'd made the right decision though as the prognosis didn't look good for her. Thanks again for your lovely words.xx

I'm so sorry Jan, I'm sure if she could she'd tell you she was grateful to you for your love and putting her needs above your own sadness she would.
