Not a good day in the birdroom today, my senegal chick has died. He/she was around 4 weeks old and had grown loads but despite having food in his/her crop for some reason it didnt make it.

Thanks Budgiesbuddy, part of me wonders if i should have had it hand reared. Could have still happened though and then i would have wondered if i should have left it with the parents.

Sorry for the lack of updates, things have been a bit hectic since changing my job earlier in the year but i'm hoping to start breeding again but on a much smaller scale. ~Heres some zebra finch bred in my mixed aviary (pair cockatiels, zebra finch, bengalese finch, canaries and chinese painted quail). and an odd budgie chick. I split all my pairs before going on holiday but this chicks mother wouldnt leave the nest so i gave in and hung it in the mixed aviary and moved dad with her. Surprisingly they have brought the chick up regardless of being moved. Started pairing my budgies up today, only managed one pair as i'm soaking the nestboxes and perches in poultry shield and drying them out before use.

Thanks guys, there both exhibition birds but i've not managed to do anything with them yet. I've seen them mating in the aviary but there still at opposite sides of the cage this morning. Perhaps they will be happier when i've moved a couple more pairs into the cages round them.

Decided the old nestboxes had seen better days, had a drive round the pet shops and found these Got them hung, dusted with mite powder and filled with shavings. Put these two pairs into the breeding cages, all have chosen their own mates in the aviary. and took a photo of the baby cockatiels.
