That sounds great, Sam. Pity our birds are different, or I would be having one too.

Thanks Hezz, wish I could get a link for the equivalent for you! I love all sorts of birds (including our wild ones). We have had a couple of these guys nesting in a hole right near our kitchen window: To hear their little cheepy cheeps reminds me of how much I miss having birds but I must be patient! As when we get our crew, I don't think I will quite know what's hit me

Guys why not make a thread of the birds we see in our surroundings

What is that little guy, Sam? Is it some sort of robin? It is very sweet. I love the little birds with their little twiggy legs. We have done that before, BB. I think Brian1 started it. I seem to remember you added crows and crows.

Yes he is rather cute ain't he - he is a blue tit (there are quite a few "tit" varieties) but it depends on the area you live in England as to where there are most of them. And there legs are twiggy aren't they?!!!! Could do BB, but as there are so many I think we would probably have to limit it somehow....? Like... how many you get in your garden patch? I would just love it tho if the people from Australia say that they have Cockatoo's in there garden, how wonderful!

Cockatoos living in gardens and backyards is charming for us only. It's different in Australia though. I have seen farmers shooting them.

Not always, BB. They do make a mess of some crops, but most people - farmers - put up with them or find other ways to deter them. Shooting at them has very limited success. Probably only makes the shooter feel he is doing something. This is one in our tree in the front yard, Sam. There were actually two there, I didn't even know until after I had done my sneaking around and clicking. The tree gets a fruit a bit bigger than a walnut, and that's what they were after. I am amazed always at how they can disappear - how can you miss a big white bird in this scrappy little tree? I love your little blue tit - I am a sucker for the little birds.

Oh Hezz, what a stunning picture! You are sooo lucky, they are so exotic to us! We have to settle for one of our favourites...the humble long tailed tit. We live near woods so we see quite a lot as they hang round in mobs of about 10-15 at a time! Hows that for cute?

P.S. Unforunately I do not posess your camera skills (plus the birds dont sit around long enough to take a picture) so I had to use standard google image ;D

These are very beautiful birds Hezz, are Cockatoos available in pet shops?

Oh, Sam! My camera skills? ? You are confusing me with someone else! I only wish! That fellow was there for ages - I think he wanted to pose, LoL. The little birds flit around so much, I know what you mean. There are there but gone again before you register that they were there! I love little birds, they are just so cheeky! Not so much in shops, BB, but they readily breed in captivity, so quite easy to buy from breeders.

And how much one costs?

Anywhere from around $100 to $500 untame to hand reared and proven breeder. So say 60-70 pounds to about 300 pounds. I am just going on ads I have had a quick look at just now.
