iv'e just read the back off the EMP eggfood bag, it says it contains 19,500 IU of vitamin A. Compared to only 2,000 IU Vitamin D3. Wont that sheer amount of Vitamin A overload the budgies. Especially since it's a fat soluble vitamin. Also don't they need more Vitamin D than A since most budgies are blocked from unfiltered sunlight. It says to feed daily throughout the rest of the non breeding year. Has anyone got any opions on this, or Know how much vitamin A a budgie needs/uses . I realise EMP is a mega company and im in no means contradicting their instructions. Im just curious as to why budgies need that sheer amount of Vitamin A .

If it says so on the box then I would think it's fine in the quantities that they mention.

If it says so on the box then I would think it's fine in the quantities that they mention. ye it says it should consist of a quarter of their daily diet when not breeding. Not sure how much a quarter is ;D. But i'll try and keep their amount low .

My budgies have a small pot of EMP every other day when they are not breeding. I used to give them a pot daily - but they didn't eat much of it then - just chucked it around. However, every other day seems to suit them as they eat it all up then. When they are breeding they have a full pot daily, as well as their other seeds and veg.

Don't use emp my birds waste more than they eat, versalager orlux every scrap is eaten, more or less same price. It's the only one available locally . And all the breeders i know of feed it, so the birds are used to it . Mine seem to eat it all. And i trust in EMP as a company .

Just remember that we (animals and humans) need different quantities of different vitamins for optimum health, just like we need a different quantity of vegetables than the quantity of cereals or meat we need. A lot of vitamins/minerals al that are nedded are trace amounts - hence the term "trace elements".
