Q. When did you first start to become interested in budgies and what sparked it off?
A. I have always had an interest in animals, when I was five I got my first two budgies, only pet birds, I had them for a few years and then visited a local breeders house, he showed me some chicks and i loved them.
My pets eventually died, in 2010 I visited a petshop with a spare $30 and bought 2 normal light greens, from then on I was hooked!
Q. What did your first aviary / breeding room look like?
A. My current birdroom is 4x3 meters and my aviary is 5x5 foot
Q. Where and when did you acquire your first budgerigar?
A. I got my first show bird from Bob saunders
Q. Do you still have birds from this bloodline?
A.Yes
Q. Which bloodlines having given you the must impact on your stud?
A. Neil Frasers birds
Q. Do you have a Specific Way of preparing your birds for the breeding season?
A. No, when they are in condition they get paired
Q. Do you pair your birds by visual appearance / bloodline or both?
A. Visual, but bloodline is considered
Q. How many chick and clutches are your birds Allowed?
A. 2-3 for hens, more for cocks if they are in condition
Q. What differences are there in your feeding programme in the breeding and non-breeding?
A. Only that they get a breeder multivitamin
Q. What would you change about your setup if you had the chance (and infinite money to do?
A. To be honest i would would make a setup like yours
Q. Do you believe in preventatives medication? If so what do you use?
A. I use coccivet when it rains for 3 or more days
Q. How do you deal with birds with feather disorders?
A. I will use them as long as it does not carry a fault
Q. Do you have a favorite mutation or Variety?
A. Spangles
Q. Who do you admire most in the hobby?
A. You Barrie, you are kind and always willing to help, even though you receive hundreds of emails a day. Your birds are so well bred and the care you give them is amazing, your are somewhat of a third mentor to me, you always deal advice and tips, we need more people like you to promote the hobby.
Q. What was the best bird you ever breed?
A. A cinnamon Light green
Q. What was the best bird you have seen from Someone Else's stud?
A. Either your spangle grey or Neil Frasers Albino that one nationals
Q. What is the most important piece of advice you give a beginner, just starting out in the hobby?
A. Dont be affraid to ask questions and dont rush to buy birds, get an idea of what a good bird should look like and visit as many breeders as possible, only buy from 2-3 good breeders
Q. What more can we do to promote the hobby?
A. Be more inviting, cheaper prices of birds, get people to sign up to the club and if you have the stock give them a few birds
Q. What do you enjoy must about the hobby? Are you still as enthusiastic as when you first started?
A. I love breeding that one cracker, and when you get a surprise in the genetics and get a completely different nest of chicks to what you expected, I also enjoy catching up with fellow breeders and going to shows, I am definitively as enthusiastic as when I first started
