Bit of a sad day on Friday as my mum had to have her cat Charlie put to sleep. She was 21 years old (can you believe that?) But what with her ailments and worsening conditions perhaps it was for the best. I am actually surprised she has lived as long as she had, as I grew up with her as a teenager so have very fond memories of her too. It was a very peaceful moment. I am glad that I was there with my mum and Charlie as I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. RIP my little sweetpea

Awww sorry she had to be put down, but glad your mom's kitty went peacefully. Your mom now has 21 years of fond memories. Amazing how much we can love another species, big or small.

That's a fine old age, though. She must have been well loved.

A sad day indeed, for you two, Sam. I am sure her life was very happy - must have been to have stayed with you 21 years. RIP Charlie.

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts, as am sure everyone knows how it feels to lose something so very special. I felt more for my mum that day than I did for me.
Charlies life was a full and happy life, but now she sleeps. Goodnight my little one x

Ahhh, thank you Hezz that's really sweet. She is ok I think though, in fact I think she might be considering (when she is ready) about getting a few "feathered" friends she knows about the forum too so any help she needs she knows where to ask

Rest in peace Charlie. She was obviously very well loved and looked after to reach 21. Cool that your mum is thinking of getting some budgies We'll be glad to welcome her here! *and tell her about what you have been getting up to..tee hee*

That's really lovely then, Sam. I really, really feel for elderly folk (not sure if your mum falls in this range or not) who lose a pet - sometimes their only companion - and then feel they don't have the time left to take on another pet. If it were my mum or dad, I would be more than happy to adopt their pet, if they did pass away before the animal, just because the pet gave them so much. We did that with my grandmother's cat - simply because she loved it so much! I am sure your mum is smart enough to realise that poor Charlie's time was up, 21 after all, but we all need a little time to grieve. Who knows, maybe you and your mum can get your birds together, and have play-dates - at least no worries come holiday times with quarantine.

Ha ha! You guys make me smile Tell my mum what I have been up to Marianne? You tell tale ;D I will tell mum you think she might be in the elderly category Hezz! LOL! ;D But Charlie was my mums companion so that's why I did feel for her so as it must be so quiet without her. But good idea about the play dates! Don't think she will need much convincing either about getting birdies as she has had them when she was young too Thanks again for all your warmest thoughts, it is so appreciated and brings comfort x

Now, now, no, don't take me out of context, Sammie, me girl!!!! not sure if your mum falls in this range or not[/b] NOT SURE!!!! ;D She will be missing a friendly face to greet her every day. I now know how I got so involved with the budgies after my old dog Tess had to be put down.

HA HA HA LOL!!!! Thought that might get you going Hezz! It is hard when you lose your best friend, and it is amazing how quiet it is and you keep thinking you hear them. Sorry to hear that you had to have your dog put to sleep too, its never an easy decision but sometimes it is the kindest and respectful thing you can do x
