Trill killed my budgie? I've been feeding Trill to my budgies for years without problems so I'm wondering how you know it was Trill that killed your budgie?

The original poster never came back. They must have realized it was a useless and empty statement.

Re the Trill. There was one of those baseless internet rumours that went around quite a few years ago saying it was toxic, but with no reason to back it up. I believe it just keeps circulating out there in cyberworld and then others re-quote it and off it goes again.
Probably someone got a new budgie, fed it Trill, and then it died. But correlation is not always causation.

Sorry I have been off the internet for a while. Yes, my first budgie was eating a bird seed for about 7 months and was fine. Then the pet shop stopped selling the seed and so I started to give him trill. We found him dead about a couple of weeks later. We took him to the breeder who showed us that there was a big lump in his crop because he could not digest the trill properly. He just felt the dead bird's crop once, looked at us and said "have you been feeding him trill?".

I just wonder if there are differences in Trill depending on where it is manufactured - what was different about the first seed do you think? I know there are lots on here who have had budgies live a long time and have been on Trill.. I hope, though very unfortunate and sad for you and your bud, that this is not a widespread issue

I am in Northumberland but I think other users from around here use trill too so I don't know. The breeder seemed pretty sure though. The first seed was a bit simpler than trill and only had about two different types of seed in whereas the trill has lots of different ones.

Ive been feeding my birds Trill for 50+ years and have never heard of this before and have never had a problem. This sounds more like a case of an impacted crop or sour crop.

I think it was just an unfortunate case by the sounds of it.. and maybe something in the trill just didnt agree... but shame all the same, whatever caused it.

I think a bit more info from the breeder would help us understand, me anyway. Joey eats little else but Trill and he seems fine.

Yes, it probably was just unfortunate. It did sound like the breeder had had cases like this before but I don't see how because so many users here use it all the time and its fine.
