Everyone has their favourites, and some take against things for no good proven reason. Sounds like the breeder may have been one of those. I remember we had a member a while back who swore black and blue that millet killed her budgie, but it turned out all the poor bird ate was millet practically ......... because he begged for it! Poor thing was probably deficient in so many things, no wonder it got sick.

Question: What do you use for the bottom of the cage? I used to use news paper and Corbo. Do other people use something different? Oh and I used to mix two kinds of grit. Stomach grit and oyster shell grit, this is different and has a different effect on the budgies toilet behaviour (droppings). Corbo:

Trill killed my budgie too, 6 months ago, the usual supplier to Pedigree foods could not supply and another merchant was used, the husks were different, the colour different and if you look closely tiny full shells are in the mix, haven't seen them in it before ! Don't knock people for saying it harmed their birds, my local pet shop man has had many customers who have stopped buying trill.

I think that the problem with Trill kathy was that they changed the recipe too fast. This meant that the birds did not have time to get used to the new mix and wouldn't eat it. This is why it's important to change over to any new seed mix gradually. Something that the makers of Trill did not factor in. They really should have told people that the mix was changing so that they could stckpile the old mix and get their birds used to the new one slowly.

I ended up buying some old trill from the Internet at the time and slowly mixed it in with the new, pickle hated the new trill and refused to eat it, full stop. I swapped his food in the end to Vita nature which is a much better blend which he loves, three times the price of trill but you can really see why.
