Hi Barrie - what would be the best diet for your birds? I.e how much fruit and/or veg should you give your birds per day and is there a specific seed you should use? I know everyone is different but just wanted to ask is there a set diet as I wasn't aware till I got budgies that you should feed them more than just seed

I know everyone is different but just wanted to ask is there a set diet as I wasn't aware till I got budgies that you should feed them more than just seed points to watch Sam ; The pet shop with the weighed up bags of seed which include no sell by date are to be avoided.................For the pet budgerigar , small breeder owners i suggest seed is purchased online from Haiths seeds.............a good diet is 50% plain canary , 50% mixed millets to include panicum, jap and pearl , add to this haiths tonic seed once a week ...........you can buy loose and mix your own .............every other day i would offer groats , just wash them first and then add grated carrot, chopped celery , a little garlic and a little diced apple..............this can be changed to suit by adding other fruits a veg to the groats, try raw beet, washed tinned sweetcorn, oranges, the list goes one but be aware a budgie will only eat per day food that is the approx size of its head..............don;t forget the weekly millet spray treat................when your bird is moulting feed extra jap millet as this contains the most protein of all millets

Hi Barrie I am a newbie and due to get three budgies very soon. Do you have any pros and cons as to whether to get 3 males or 3 females. Would love birds for me to interact with - would males be better?

Hi Barrie I am a newbie and due to get three budgies very soon. Do you have any pros and cons as to whether to get 3 males or 3 females. Would love birds for me to interact with - would males be better? The ideal trio for you would be sibling males , if that was not possible i would find a breeder who has two male 8 week old brothers , these would be bonded to each other and make it easier for you all to bond as one.

Before buying my new feathered friends would it be necessary to have a little 'first aid kit'? Hopefuly of course I won't ever need one.
