Quick question if anyone gets to it. I didn't feel an entire new thread would be necessary for this. The thought came from the person asking about hand taming two birds and a few comments were that they could both become untame without enough dedicated time to keep them both tame. Is there a certain amount of time that's good in order to keep a budgie tame?I only have Basal and as soon as I'm home I'm interacting with him, handling him, etc. I have class, at the most, for 5 hours (that's if a lab section goes to full time). My internship in the summer I will be doing 2-3 10 hour days, but the rest of the week I'll be home interacting with him, and when I get home on those days. He will never be lonely between my husband and I, as he will be home before I am on those 10 hour days. No. They are all different. So much depends on what sort of upbringing the bird had to start with, how much it was handled, how used to humans etc, what previous experiences, particularly of a negative kind they may have had, how easily the bird is given to trusting, how strong the bond between human and bird are .................. too many variables to have a set time allocated.

Ok. I will just do what I plan with timing. He will still get a lot of interaction from me, and I'm hoping by the end of the summer (US) he will be comfortable enough to be out of the cage and about much more than now.

When taming 2 birds that are together in one cage, always work first with the bolder bird, get it to step up etc, the other one will soon understand that the trainer is a good source of treats and respond. I have placed tamed birds into the aviary, returned many weeks after releasing them and they happily fly back to me when I visit them. I would never place a bonded bird in an aviary as it would fret and stress out. Through time in the aviary they may be slower to respond to commands, but are still considered as very tame, I don't think they lose the trust between bird and human. But as I've said before, every bird is different, plus there is a vast difference between a tame bird and a bonded bird, As much interaction as possible is needed with every bird, especially if it is truly bonded with you.

Please if you have a query start your own thread.
Go to the section that you want the thread to appear in and select "create thread", it's at the top on the right.
