Just wanted to say thank you Barrie for such an informative web site. I can honestly say I've been glued to it the last few weeks as I am breeding for the 1st time, and now have 6 beautiful chicks!!It's on my favourite list along with this very helpful friendly forum. Also I now know what a groat is!! I've been soaking enough of them lately, and I feel like I've been boiling eggs for England! It's all been so worth it though and you're so right in saying 'you've not lived until you've raised a healthy bunch of chicks.' Unfortunately though this will be my first and last so I am savouring every moment.

Barrie's knowledge is amazing (mind he's been doing it for a while) great info tho' many thanks Barrie, much appreciated. Can I ask - can budgies breed whatever age? I'd imagine they would be less fertile as they get older. When I first got Sid (who's a year or more younger than Mischief) he tried mating with her twice and it caused feathers to fly (green ones) and blood! Since then he seems to have given up!

What things should i do with my budgie to keep him entertained? He has toys in his cage but he is more interested in being out with me, but im not sure what to play with him to keep him stimulated? (he was handreared so is completely tame, so this isnt an issue) x

Salutations Everyone! I'm a newbie here in both the forum and in budgie keeping, I recently got my 1st parakeet named D.D from a local pet store (unknown gender so I'll call her a she for now) exactly a day ago, finally after waiting 5 years from parent's approval (I'm 18). She's really shy but she responds occasionally when people are talking or when she hears music. But I have a few concerns, she hasn't gone down to her perch to fetch water nor food. I tried giving her millet seeds by reaching it to her, she just gave it a few bites.

Welcome to you and DD. It can take a few days for them to settle in and feel safe enough to eat or drink in front of you. She will be having some when your not around, but just keep an eye out. There is loads of great 'stickies' in each section with loads of great advice and people will answer any questions you have. Love to see a picture of you new friend once she's settled in.

Thank you She's listening to music right now but she's trembling ever since I got her, she would stop if there's no one around but when she knows there's someone she shakes ( her tail kind of rattles) but other than that she doesn't breath heavily ( open her mouth and pant like a dog), I'll take a photo ones she's hand tame.
