I don't think it really matters as long as we can identify whose post it is, after all most of us will never actually meet.
If your worried about it my name is Neville Douglas Collins

I agree that it's better when people do use their real names but I cannot force people to do so.

What if your name is Micky? What one wishes to call themselves should be a personal choice and doesn't change how I view them, I let their posts speak for them not their handles.

personally i don't mind it as long it's nicknames and not daft ones (for instence i used to be "wolf king") Hence me sometimes getting called wolfie for short. (This can actually be a name BTW ).I couldn't register as ryan.c (don't know why). So i signed up as that, i put in my signature my real name though .

True, people can make them up and also some are not comfortable with sharing their information on the internet. It's all fine with me. As long as they are not trouble makers that is

No one is going to be sure that the name anyone puts up is going to be the one on their birth certificate and it can be a dangerous thing to be too easily found over the internet these days. My first name is Heather, Hezz for short sometimes (and probably lots of other things not deemed suitable on our family-friendly forum. ) I have noticed the trend moving to use real names rather than nick-names. Ryan, you are excused

You're not showing us much mercy with that handle, Robert!
I understand Owain's point though. For the serious budgie people, it's nice for them to know who they are talking to.
It's just that the internet makes that very difficult. People often like to be anonymous - sometimes with good reason, and other times because they want to make trouble.
