Hi everyone,
Sorry I have been away for a bit..super super busy! Fall is here, halloween on our heels and Hunter is doing better...budgies are breeding..so..
keep meaning to post this one..Ivy and Baby have been busy for the past little bit and have produced 8 eggs. 6 of which have hatched.
5 of the babies Ivy is doing very well with, but she is not feeding the youngest one and it may be because she is too busy?
I have tried removing the oldest chicks for a bit, in hopes that Ivy will feed the 3 youngest ones, and nothing. She will feed the 2 other ones but leaves the youngest. Then I tried removing all of them but the youngest one and she still didn't feed him. She will warm him up for a bit, but for the most part will leave him and leave the nest box.
I have since pulled him as several times I checked on him/her and she was in the next box but far away from him and he was chirping for food and she just doesn't do it.
Why?
Anyways, I have started handfeeding him and it is quite scary and so so delicate. I have read that I need to feed every hour? or every 4 hours? or every 2 hours? I am so confused. So far I am feeding every 1-2 hours...or whenever he/she chirps, then I check his crop and decide then...
I would like to put him back in the nest box once he is a few more days older..can I do that? Or will Ivy reject him?
I have another hen who is breeding/sitting on eggs, but she has rejected him --I think? (she would poke at him and pick him up and drop him anywhere and just kinda 'MAN HANDLE him/her.." it looked too rough for my taste and I removed him...
does anyone have a video of the first time one foster a chick with another hen so I can distinguish between a hen who rejects a chick and one who is 'just testing' him out..?
Many thanks!!
