They lay an egg every 48hrs between April - August. I will sort out the video clip for you shortly So that's roughly 75 eggs per hen, is it? Its usually round about 60 eggs per hen per season - on a good season too! It depends on the weather too, if its a cold and wet summer they lay less or of its a long/early winter it can effect the length of the laying season. The hens dont reach maturity until they are 2 years old and sometimes in the first year of lay the eggs are not always fertile.

lovin the pics .... and thats a great vid .... . am i right in saying them eggs are soft when they come out then go hard after ...??.. Thanks for your comment on the video! The eggs are hard when they come out, they have tough shells as they can have quite a high and rough landing when they are laid ! I have seen one lay an egg and I cringed because it landed onto stone, I rushed over and it was fine!

How long they live?

They can live upto 15 yrs. They eat Ostrich pellets (dodson & horrell) which are similar to layers pellets for chickens. They also peck at leaves off the trees, clover and other weeds as well as small insects even mice. They will chase off a fox if it tries to pester my chickens or turkeys.

Yes it is a bonus that they chase the foxes away.
