Hi all For a while now, 2 of my budgies (Gilbert and Romeo) have had scaly face. We have tried treating it with the paint on treatment, but it didn't work that well. I have heard that the treatment that you drop onto the skin on their back works quite well so I am wondering what sort is best that is available in Australia. Thanks in advance, Nicola

Ivermectin 0.1 spot on treatment is the easiest and the best. But I think there are some issues finding it in Australia. Hezz and Satce can help you with alternatives.

Nicola do the rounds of your pet supply stores. You may find one that has it on hand. Mostly what they will have will be 0.08% - it is a basic concentration for sheep-dip. Also animal produce stores will have it, but probably only in bulk. I am lucky enough to have been able to get some from on of the pet supply stores we have who buy a drum and decant a small amount especially for birds. Make sure that you get them to give you the concentration - they may not like being questioned, but let them know you are not going to take any risk with your birds. Stand your ground. If buying it on-line is easier, then look into the vetafarm product. I can't find anything on that site that gives a concentration, though. Or talk to your vet.

The Vetafarm Avimec product says: Active Constituents: 1000µg/mL Ivermectin.
Is that not 0.1%?

Sorry, yes it is. I am rather fuzzy-brained at the moment - didn't see what was so very obvious.
