Ive endured a 2 hour dentist appointment this afternoon to have 2 crowns next to each other. I was in such a state this morning that i didn't think i would get through the door, but i did and now have two temp crowns, the permanent ones to be fitted on the 4th Dec. Only thing is i keep biting the inside of my cheek now, ouch .

Yikes! You should be proud of yourself, that's got to have stung..a bit! At least it is done now, the crown fitting should be the easy bit. Best of luck for 4th Dec!

The temporary crowns are just lightweight plastic approximations to get you through the two week period it takes to make the real crown.

You are brave, but like mick says the swap over shouldnt hurt. I had my very first bit of work done on my teeth which was a surface filling two years ago when i reached the ripe old age of 40. That was enough for me. Your not a wimp at all skysmum i dont like my teeth messed with.i dread the time i have to have a proper filling and needles :-( Sue

It so boring and uncomfortable, especially when they've got all those hot bits of equipment firing at your head. I sit there thinking to myself, "please just hurry up, please". This is probably why my hair always looks like #$%@ !

I had my first filling aged 6 and it was the school dentist. The whole thing was so traumatic that i cant move on from it. He hit a nerve and i jumped up, pure reaction, and he pushed me down in the chair and told me to ' sit still you silly girl and don't move'. So the fear for me is feeling restrained in the chair, now im talking 50 years ago, it wouldn't happen today, i hope .

I share your pain, Skysmum, regarding first dentists. Our town only had one, so no choice. He had the fattest fingers that were never meant to fit into a little kid's mouth, and was horrible to boot. So much so that my brother bit his finger - HARD!!!!! I just wish I had had the guts to do the same!

I remember I had to have ten out when I was only about eight.i had too many teeth for the size of my mouth( believe it or not) :-) I had to have that gas and it made me sick for days, but apart from that I have been lucky. I remember going to the school dentist a well and he wasn't nice either.i think they get the most evil it's of dentist to do the schools to frighten you to look after your teeth but all it does is frighten you to go to the dentist. I have the same phobias as you skysmum, dentists and heights! I can remember when I was young (just) I had gas to have some teeth taken out and I can still remember the big gas mask coming towards me and the smell of rubber. A couple of years ago I had an abscess and had to have a tooth out. I was petrified as it was just a local anaesthetic but have to admit I couldn't feel any pain at all. Plus, dentists now are so much more friendly and understanding and put you at ease if they know you're nervous, so don't forget to tell him next time
