Oh and carrot is usually a good one to start with, or a bit of mange tout, or even basil.
Personally, I try and stay away from fruit because it can cause excess sugars in their crop and that can cause AGY or Megabacteria which is damn near impossible to cure.

Thanks! Guess I'll have to learn to like carrots myself! I'm off to my garden store this morning to get some basil and cilantro plants to grow - both of which I'll use in my cooking. Has anyone decided if the new ceramic non-stick pans are ok for birds? They are labelled as having no PTFE.

Check that they are both PTFE and PFOA free. Both can be harmful to our birds. If there is any confusion regarding these two compounds this site below might help to better understand the difference. Note though, that this site is not a bird-related site. www.thecookwareadvisor.com/what-do-you-mean-its-not-teflon/

My little guy still won't eat anything except his seed mix. I took his seed cup away and put some chopped cabbage and kale in a cup in his cage. He went over and licked it a couple of times but didn't bite. Today I also removed his seed cup and put a few baubles of millet in a cup for him. He tossed them to the bottom of his cage. I've tried putting lettuce and basil between the bars of his cage but he ignores it. My little guy seems to be a picky eater. He's still very skittish and won't let my hand too close to him.

It is still early days for him being new with you tweetiepiesmom First response of any bird is to think what you are offering him is poisonous?! But in the wild that is their natural instinct. Persevere, he will get there! Plus when he is more used to you he will get the idea too. You need a lot of patience with these little guys, but one day they will surprise you and the feeling is truly amazing

Thanks! I'll keep at it. He's just so cute, it is worth the effect. Should I keep trying a variety of things or should I give him one thing (like carrots) until he gets the idea? I have found a breeder near me who also runs a small pet store. She recommended two different seed mixes and told me to try them both and see which one he liked. I got a new seed cup from her. I put one seed mix in his old cup and the other in the new cup. I placed them side by side in his cage. He ate the seeds in his old cup but wouldn't touch the seeds in the new cup. The next day I switched which seeds were in each cup. He still picked the same seeds that he had eaten the day before. It seems he has definite likes!

Carrot is always a good one to keep at because of the vitamin A as that is vital for a healthy budgie

Small success! I removed his seed cup and hung a sprig of millet there. He went over and ate the millet, yeah!!! Tomorrow I will put some carrot in a cup in the same spot and see if he tries it.

Brilliant! That's it, you got it! And you are right to put it in the same place regularly as he will then associate everything that goes there is food. Good work! Onwards and upwards now!

I have a clip at the front of the cage that I hang veg from. I rinse the veg first and always offer it them in my hand and show them. Sometimes they nibble sometimes not but I always hang whatever it is on the same clip in the same place. Eric likes red chard and spinach, it has to be green veg or he won’t eat it!! Archie on the other hand will try anything, his favourite seems to be tenderstem broccoli up to yet. He loves it.

If you want to get him eating another seed mix, mix the new seed in with the old one that he is eating. Start with just a small amount of new - something like 20%, once he is happily eating this mix in a bit more, maybe make the mix 2:1 ratio, old to new, then 50/50 etc, until it is all new mix. Spread it out over a few weeks if he seems reluctant to try anything new. This gives his new digestive system time to adjust to new foods.

I got a budgie for 8 days now. The first 6 days since I got her, I’ve been feeding her seeds. I noticed that she looked sick & puffed up. I just switched it to fresh food diet recently & I’ve been feeding her Romaine Lettuce everyday. She looks better now. But I’m just wondering if I could feed my budgie vegetables everyday? Or should I also feed her seeds sometimes? I don’t want to feed her lettuce everyday so I’m going to feed her kangkung. Is it okay to feed her dark leafy vegetables everyday?

Yes unless her poop becomes too liquid. But try to vary the type of fresh food she is eating, as well as provide her with seed. There are plenty of other veg that are good for her besides dark leafy greens, carrot and corn being the obvious two.
