A lovely lady i know that owns bigger birds suggested to me to mist Elf with water and apple cider vinegar as its good for mites (and prevention off) and also to add some into his water as its good for worming and other health benefits-i was wondering if any body else has or does do this and if so how much to put in the misting bottle and again how much to put in his drinking water and of course how often??

I was going to suggest ACVinegar to you. You need the one that's naturally fermented. Have a look on Paul Stannard's site. He has a range of things that could be good for you. He's one of Barrie's good mates, and a nice bloke. He was very active on the old forum. www.ps1budgerigars.com/page2.htmIf you are putting it in their drinking water, the ration is 100:4... That is, 4mls per 100 mls of water. So around a teaspoon in 100mls. One of those small plastic spray bottles is around 250 mls when full, so one or two of capfuls should be right.

I use it and I know Sam does too. I don't use it for misting but do add it to their drinking water. I don't give them anything like 4mls per 100ml though - more like Corie's dilution 4-5mls per litre.
Sam gave me her dosage rate which she got from her breeder - a capful per litre but I can't remember what her capful measured ..... I worked mine out from that as a drop number - about 3-4 drops per 100ml.

In my breeders own words he said it was the best tip that he'd been given - this is the one we both use (from Sainsburys) and using this cap on this bottle it is half a cap per 2 ltrs. It is a good preventative for most things which our Barrie has put on his website hereSince we have been using we (touch wood) have not had any tummy troubles, crop infections etc

This is really interesting, i always keep a bottle in for salad dressings etc and its very good for the digestive system for us , my old dad swore by it. I will start adding it to my buds water, how often do you use it for you buds Hezz and Sam, should it only be given once a fortnight?

I add mine about every second day, maybe 2 out of every 3 days - I don't add it when they are having other additives, such as calcium. I think Sam said she does hers every day, but she can confirm or correct my statement when she gets on.

I add ACV to their drinking water, about the same amount as others have mentioned. I add it about 1x a week. I don;t mist them with it though..just because. No particular reason but I have heard of the wonderful benefits that ACV has on skin/feathers/fur. I believe it because I've seen dramatic changes in the improvement of health for my pets.

Hey guys, yes I put it in every day as it is such a week solution. I think they said on the Barrie Shutt link I gave earlie that it can be used in treating wounds (not misting) but luckily I have never had to try that! Here is the original thread link: budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/4706/friends-budgie?page=1#In our experience its pretty good stuff
