I think if it is for a treatment then 10days, if for general prevention then its every 6months Gaile, do you mean that it should be given again after 10 days?

I think it's once every 2 weeks for just 2 weeks as far as I know.

Hi barrieshutt. I can't seem to find anywhere how often one should administer Ivermectin. I have a budgie with very laboured breathing and have put one drop on the skin today. He has guardian angel in his water yesterday and today. Being Christmas it is difficult to contact any vets etc. When should I use the Ivermectin again please? Thank you. My understanding was that it was to be given once a week for three weeks, if given as a treatment for scaly mites, anyway.

thought that if treating mites then one dose then another 10days later as the mite has a 10day egg to adult life span. could be wrong. then so protect from mites its one drop every 6months xxx

It is possible that I was using the weekly turn-around because the dosage I had was 0.08%, not 0.1%, so a slightly weaker solution, and this was the timeframe I was recommended to use, by the vet.

Barrie mentioned some where that preventive dosage is one drop once every 6 months. While treatment is one drop every week for 3 weeks, I guess. But of course according to the bird condition. Just too lazy to look for that post now

This is what I was told as well, BB, but thought it may have been due to my slightly lower concentration.

Hi Barrie Shutt, I brought Joey to vet to administer the Beaphar wormer...4 drops, I was worried doing it myself ....I can't find out if there's any adverse reactions...he's very subdued , breathing a bit heavy..and has had spells all night of opening his beak as if he's yawning . When the vet gave him one drop of ivermectin orally for the worms 4 weeks ago, there were no after effects...but worried about continuing in another 4 weeks with this one . ...of course it's nearly midnight, a bit late for phoning the vet . I hope he's going to be ok .
I did get the spot on, but someone said it wasn't as effective for worms , the vet agreed. ...you can put this one in water too, and keep them in cage for 48 hrs, but I wanted to be sure he got it.
Ohh dear..worried mother hen .
i did buy Ivermectin spot on too fir putting on back if neck , that was two spot ons I had....but thought this oral would be better..now I'm not so sure 😟

Barrie is not with us any more; but if you have any worries whatsoever, particularly as you had a vet administer the drops, take this up with your vet again. Take Joey in, regardless of whether you have an appointment and make sure that they give him the all-clear.
