Don't disturb anything until all eggs hatch, after which replace the wood shavings regularly to keep the nest box clean. Lovely pinkies

ok thx again BB. yes they are lovely, u can tell which 1 hatched first (the FAT one lol) what's the best thing to do with the killer cock I took out? try him with another hen early in the new year or don't breed with him again? he's only 8 months old so this was his first breed.

Some young cocks are not good at breeding but they do fine when they are older. I would say he is worth a try when he is a year old. Anyhow if you want to breed him for some reason, you can always remove him before the eggs start to hatch.

Thx mickmay and BB. I have had an idea about putting the cock in to breed with Harpic after the new year. Reason being, she's very protective over her food and celery so she'll more than likely stop him going in the nestbox. Everyone is afraid of Harpic when she starts

another 1 is due to hatch today and i'm getting concerned about Emy (whether I should be or not is a different matter ). She hasn't eaten seed since yesterday morning but she is tucking into the celery like a mad one. Is this to help with milk production? and is it normal/ok for her to be doing this?

Yes the soft food is easy to turn into crop milk. Seeds in chicks crops are indication that the hen is unable to make enough crop milk.

Soaked groats and sprouted seeds and beans are the best soft food along with hard boiled eggs
