Bunnies and eggs were supposed to be portraying life going on ........eggs are obvious; bunnies maybe because of "breeding like rabbits" But hot cross buns, easter eggs/bunnies, and chocolate, are not the meaning of Easter. They are the commercial side of what can have very real meaning to a lot of people. You don't have to believe to respect others who do ......... is there no-one who actually thinks about this? While I am not a particularly religious person either, I feel this can be a time for EVERYONE to take stock and maybe appreciate what they do have. Instead of whinging about what they don't! You are absolutely right Hezz, it should be a time to reflect. Everything gets so commercialised these days and why should we eat chocolate at Easter when you can have it all year round? (Joke) No seriously, I can tell you that a couple of years ago we had a very minimal Christmas, no presents we could just about afford some sort of a Christmas dinner and I have got to say it was one of the most quiet Christmas's we have had albeit one of the best. Strange that its takes something like that to make you humble and more aware of others in a worse situation than yourself. Perhaps instead of being commercial for a day we should consider what we can do for others.
So much so, this Easter I will be sponsoring a duck in a fete in our area! Laugh if you will! But as all the proceeds will go to saving an area in our town that the Council wish to build on that is actually a nice area shared by wildlife as well as the public I think it will be worth it. Finally, Sam, finally! Someone is actually getting the point . Instead of the banal chitchat about hot cross buns and badly moulded chocolate. We had a present-free Christmas this year, Sam. And yes, in many ways it was much more pleasant ............ and isn't it true that the ones who have the least to give are the biggest givers? How does sponsoring a duck work? Is this a wild duck that you "buy"? I am definitely curious now, and would love to hear more. If you get to name it, you'll have to call it Rosa.

Tee hee! Seems like there are a lot more people understanding the "tough times" for all these days. Its just a shame that a tradedgy or an economic crisis has to make us realise this...for some, that could be too late As for sponsoring a duck: the area which we will be near is right by a river, so it will be duck "pooh sticks" as it were! So am afraid it will be those rubber duckies racing down the river (but remember what I am like about pooh sticks!) Obviously I am going to win And consider it done Hezz, will see if I can get some pictures of Rosa on the day

Happy Easter everyone! =)
I never really understood Easter when I was little because no one ever took me to church or anything lol. But I really appreciate it now that I've become more spiritual.
I think the Easter story shows that even in death, suffering, and humiliation there is still hope.
If you guys are interested, you should read the prologue to John's Gospel (John 1:1-1:14). I think it sums up Christianity nicely. It's one of my favourite passages.

I know I'm a bit late, but happy chocolate, oops, sorry, Happy Easter everyone! I agree with the others tho, one has to appreciate that these are hard times and it is indeed the people with less that give more. Good luck Sam with the duck 'pooh sticks'.

I'm late too but better late than never:
Happy Easter.... may this season bring you many new beginnings and great success in all you do. A time for new beginnings (forgiving past mistakes).
Fits in well with Spring doesn't it... Who was the goddess of Spring?
Flora - Roman (flowers & spring) Persephone - Greek (goddess of spring growth) Maia - Greek (goddess of Spring from which we get "May") Februalia - Latin (root word februa means purification. Romans held their celebration of purification in February)
Easter derived from the Eastre, the Teutonic goddess of Spring.
With or without chocolate... Have a good one!
