All good things come to those who wait. You've done really well so far anyway. The progress has been fantastic. Did you get an air purifier/extractor? So far - not bad - but the delays will fidget me although I'm very accustomed to waiting....... This morning is an example: sorted out breakfast, drinks and clearing-up and managed a quick look into the potty-bird shed to see if it was water-tight. (It is apart from a spot of damp in in one place along the edge of the floor. Easily solved once the final pieces of timber go around the outside edge where the damp-course is.) Domestic chores over the road completed - medication trays done for the week and now time to do lunch and wait for the Community Matron's visit... then off to the doctors with prescription request then sort out shopping and evening meal. After than I can lock myself in the aviary for a hour or two with a can of emulsion, a paint-brush and a radio. (While my sister continues to float around on yet another holiday) Extractor fan is in the pipeline. It will run from a plug in time-switch. I know more-or-less where it will go and what sort I want. Making a round hole is something I may need help with but it might not be necessary. I can ask my mate to come back to fit it for me at anytime. We'll see.

Your electrician should be able to drill the hole for the fan , he should have a four inch holesaw in his tool kit , I do anyway ... I got lots of stuff done on Monday in my own shed as I was off on holiday , hoping to push things along this week as there is a sale on Sunday where I'm hoping to pick up some birds ( the feathered kind ) ...have you decided what your final plans are with the flight height and storage underneath yet , I'm actually toying with the idea of making another flight underneath the top one and putting a hole through into the main aviary flight outside but sectioning the outside bit off from the rest so that I can keep different birds in different flights both inside and outside ...still thinking about it mind you lol

You’re right gary – my electrician friend has a circular saw – he’s fitted extractors in our kitchen and bathroom in the past so, when most other things are sorted, I’ll ask him to help me out with that too. Your idea of an additional flight sounds good. We made the new flight with a low block wall running down the middle so, come winter time, if it’s needed the flight could be divided into two to separate the boys from the girls by using a couple of meshed frames that will sit on top of the internal wall. I’ve also thought about a longer flight that could run along the front of the shed. A new / replacement triangular safety-door would then fit on the front rather than where we have planned it to go at the back. First of all we need to get the whole thing set up and in working order. Final plans for internal flight = half-height to allow for storage underneath. Sunday Sale? Sounds interesting!! I hope you’ll be taking photos for those of us unable to get there to see it.

Today "we" were electrified!
9am might not sound early to make a start on a Saturday morning but I'd only clambered into bed at 4am after the usual wander across the road to see my parents were OK...so I was half asleep when the electrician arrived.
The process was a simple sounding one.. I needed a couple of double 13amp sockets and a light.
Several hours later the potty shed had just that - power! Beautifully done, extremely safe and it should last for years.
Running from its own trip switch on the main fuseboard indoors, a cable disappears across the attic, emerges from the soffit into a junction-box and then armoured cable is suspended on stainless steel straining wire to the potty shed.
Once in the shed it enters a small consumer unit with independent trips providing two 13amp waterproof sockets and an overhead low energy bulk head light with pull cord swtich next to the door.
I'm delighted with it but it was too late to linger and play with the light or add an LED night light as we had been busy in the garden enlarging a flower-bed, planting up the front garden with bedding plants and doing a spot of clearing up.
Tomorrow afternoon I hope to be able to take a couple of photos to remind me of the progress.... getting there.
But a long way still to go...

"The Lord said let there be light" ........ and there was ....... in Learner's potty shed. Well, that's that done. Onwards and upwards, the momentum is building.

"The Lord said let there be light" ........ and there was ....... in Learner's potty shed. Well, that's that done. Onwards and upwards, the momentum is building. And when The Lord designed the day I, at times, wishes s/he'd thought of making 48 ours in a day instead of just 24. By the time I've sorted everyone else out there's little time left for anything else. Up at 12:30 last night as my mother phoned over (I'd onlly been home an hour) - back again at 3:15am and finally to bed at 4 or just after. Breakfast, drinks and the usual routine across the road this morning and now, at last, time for me to hit the shower. Eventually I might a have a couple of hours to whack on the next bit of paint and even wire the safety-door. But there again....someone might need something instead. Rome would have been built, decorated, advertised and sold / let in the time it's taking to get this aviary completed.
But patience is a virtue they tell me.

I don't know how you survive on such broken and little sleep. I am a grumpy bear if I don't get my sleep ..... ....... and all for such a good thing to be doing, Learner. You are absolutely doing the right thing and your good deeds will pay off in one way or another. I can see that the excellent progress you made there for a bit would make these days of little getting done rather frustrating. Like the good old Pantene ad, it mightn't happen overnight, but it will happen.

Your selfless actions for others will reap you great rewards. The budgies home will come and so will new budgies. Thanks mizloco - My whinges for the week are over. It's just that I seem to achieve so little most days and the days run into weeks so easily. Today I managed time to coat the safety door with wood stain and to put an LED safety light in place to get an idea of how effective it might be as a night-light. It was looking good at 10pm. Just enough light to see by but none escaping as far as the street so the shed remains in apparent darkness from the road. A very economical little light with just two LEDs so less than a watt per hour and it also has a daylight sensor so will turn itself on and off. That's something I guess.
In the garden I planted a few tomato plants in the greenhouse, transplanted some "spray" chrysanthemums hoping to have some cut flowers for the house by September. I used a newly purchased hose to water the veg patch at my parent's place and the newly planted front garden. Not a bad day - hoping to achieve a bit more tomorrow.

Learner you should write a 'i did' list. Write down everything you do in one day and tick it off and just see how much you really do achieve in a day. You lists look huge to me. Don't underestimate the power of selfless service. I can't wait to see the budgies when they go in eventually. They will love their new home.

It sounds like the potty shed is coming on a treat, as Stace said, everything comes to those who wait , your just having to wait a bit longer, but how nice it will be when its done. Learner your a gem, your mum and dad are sooo lucky to have you. I sorted a new mobile phone out for my mum, its very very simple to use, just press A for me B for my brother and C for my daughter, it also has a panic button on the back to alert myself or my brother if there is an emergency. It took my brother two days to respond to my phone message asking him to ring me so that i could explain about the panic button . Bob hope and no hope .

Rude words!!!!! I've just typed a post but it vanished as I hit "create post" so here we go again:
Thanks everyone for your encouragement and kind words... sorry to moan but sometimes everything seems to take soooo long when I'd very much like to see my 6 flitting about in the aviary especially as the weather is hotting up. Today things didn't go to plan as my mother decided to have a long 'morning' in bed finally (and reluctantly) emerging at 2pm!! I escaped at 3:30 to go off for the week's shopping then back to sort out dinner. At 7:30 I sloped off to the back garden to find the paintbrush and coated the fascia board in preservative before nipping home for my own evening meal. The fascia board is now a lovely (?) seasoned oak colour to match the flight's framework. There's one tiny section inside the shed that needs to be insulated and boarded - that's tomorrow's goal if all goes well. This evening, after the bed-time run, I sat with paper and pencil in an attempt to design the inside flight cage. I am sure I'm making it too complicated. I need to be able to get at the glazed windows to clean as well as add insulation panels for the winter. I think if I make the front in sections that can be removed it will do the trick especially if the back is similar. Lunch time tomorrow we have some help so I'm escaping to the allotment to plonk in some brassicas and do a spot of watering. By 5pm I want to be back in the aviary having another go if I can organise the dinner on time. Sometimes it feels like wading through treacle - I can see where I want to go but it takes a heck of a time to get there. Hezz I agree with you about lack of sleep - it leaves me easily irritated, forgetful and sometimes confused but I manage on 5 hours a day. Teaching was good training as I was often up late marking, planning and preparing for the next day. I just miss the holidays even if I'm delighted to see the back of hours of report writing and assessments. On the whole I consider myself lucky - work pressures are gone, I can stop and stare, enjoy the sunshine and plod on from day to day without deadlines, targets and the paper mountains are so very much lower these days.

Its strange how you can adapt sleep patterns and still function Learner. I had several years with a very bad back and slept for a maximum of 2 hours and then had to get up and go for a walk and follow up that kind of night with a 12 hour work day on alot of painkillers. I was muddling up my words at work due to extreme tiredness and people thought I was on drugs lol! Wading through treacle......I know what you mean only too well. Sounds like you're getting there with the aviary though. I can't wait to see pics of the final set up Just wondering, if you leave some bare windows in will you be covering them with mesh so the buds don't fly into them? They will learn not to once having done it but they can damage themselves in the learning! Or you could stick paper notes on the windows until they get to know the boundarys.
