Oh, what a great trip you must have had. France is a beautiful country. I love the diversity of the countryside there. It's many years since I've been, but I remember it being a great place for a driving holiday as the scenery and feel changed so much from region to region.

You lucky thing! It sounds as if you had a wonderful break and so much travelling too. Photos? I've only been to France once - a few years ago I spent a working week based in and around Orlean looking at "Inclusion" within their education system. We did have time for a bit of sight-seeing as well as visiting numerous schools and colleges....and lots of meetings. I was very impressed with the place and the people. A lovely city and gorgeous setting. One day, perhaps, it would be good to make a return visit to see more of the area around the Loire. If ever you plan another visit and require someone to carry bags please think of me. Welcome back!!

It was lovely i have to say, and yes stace every region is so different but i have to say that after a few trips over the years Provence is my favorite closely followed by The Dordongne. Learner, we don't take cases, everything gets stored away in our little camper and away we go, wherever the mood takes us but if you can cook i could really do with an on board chef , the only down side is that i don't get away from the kitchen much . Im still sorting my pics but a couple for now. Near our campsite in Provence Vineyards in Burgundy

How lovely...I've always wanted a camper van. Have your home wherever you go...bit like a snail. I really must go to sleep I talk such nonsense when tired.

We call them "geriatric gypsies" or "grey nomads" here, Nina. I am sure Skysmum won't take offence. Can't wait for more photos, Skysmum. It must be nice to just pack up and drive off to another country. Such a foreign concept to me.

My girls are always ribbing us, we like to think of ourselves as New Age Travellers, or Old age Travellers . Actually speaking of gypsies, when we were in the Camargue we blended in very well . Being the home of the gypsies and cowboys they were getting ready for their annual festival, ive never seen so many in one place and some of their caravans were amazing. Ive never seen separate little trailers carrying washing machines and tumble dryers before , they had all the mod cons, OH said not to get any ideas . We love the freedom of it and been to so many countries this end of Europe and seen some amazing things, its just time that prevents us going further than Italy but when we retire, if we make it , we can go away for weeks at a time, to wherever .

You're so lucky to be able to pop across and do these trips. It's a big deal to go from here. And very expensive.

I knew you would take it in the spirit it was meant. The new age can only apply to the technology you take with you, lol!!! But ....but .... but....... what about the budgies? The gypsy festival sounds amazing. You didn't stay for it? A number of the country people in Australia, who have sold up and "on the wallaby" for either a new property or work, often have these elaborate set-ups in their goose-neck trailers. It means they are able to travel with a couple of their horses, a dog or two, and have the front set up like a caravan, complete with kitchen, bathroom and laundry. They can live out of them for months at a time and be very comfortable. I have seen a few of these, but the one that most impressed me was a couple (friends of my brother's) and they had two horses, a dog and all the mod cons up the front. I was blown away by the amount of space they didn't waste.

I guess we are really, its just 2hrs to Folkestone 35mins on the channel tunnel train and bobs your uncle, were away. I hadn't thought, for you guys everything seems quite away but then you have got the beautiful tropics closer like Fiji and Malaysia, i would love to visit those places.

I was blown away by the amount of space they didn't waste. Oh weve seen some sights Hezz, an English couple we saw in Italy last year had a HUGE RV, like a single decker bus, all the sides came out. We were just wandering how they managed to get it round the small roads to do any sightseeing when the back opened up and out came a sports car , just show off's, sniff. Weve also seen many a bud happily taking centre stage, lording it up in their cage in the van, if i only had one or two i would take them with me but i think five would be a bit much in our small van, not to mention the mess . We saw a beautiful Macaw in his cage in one van the couple said they have been taking him from a baby and he loves it. Next step for us is to get Tilly a pet passport and start taking her with us, we have always been lucky enough that mum has her but im not sure how much longer we can expect her to do it now. Our several weeks at a time wont happen for at least another 10 years, OH isn't happy about this but we can only do it when he retires, so the buds are safe for now

I remember being in an overland truck the couldn't take a corner in a small Spanish town. Caused quite a stir as you can imagine. We had to back up and out for quite a way and then go around. So I get what you are talking about these people with their Winnebago's and the like. PS A well placed sniff can portray more than a thousand words.
