I say 25 mins to be sure. That's how long I always do it for. I give mine the egg stuff 2 days in a row when they are moulting.

Cheers guys, will give it a go next time when she is in moult. As for budgie eating sweetcorn, do you need to do anything with it i.e take off the skin or do you just let them get on with it? You must think I am one sandwich short of a picnic! But many thanks in advance for all your advice

Just wash and dry the sweetcorn and carve off the niblets from the stalk with a sharp knife. Then mix them in with your egg food.

Benny is having his first moult, so I did the hard-boiled egg with a bit of grated carrot (as I know he likes that), but both he and Frankie wouldn't go near it and I had to bin it all! I'm reluctant to try again as it's such a waste!

I've now got a commercial egg-and-seed hanging thingy, but they're not trying that either yet!

Maz, I'm sorry that you feel the mix was wasted. How about you boil an egg for yourself and just use a quarter of it for your birds and just use less carrot and broccoli? Eventually they will get curious and try it.

That's what I did the first time, but I don't want eggs myself every day! Today they finally realised the dried one was for eating, and have demolished half of it...having said that, there's so much on the cage floor that I fear they may have discarded the eggy bits and just eaten the seed! Little blighters! They're perky enough anyway so I'm not worried.

They will still get some of the taste, if nothing else, maz. They are tricky little things - just when you decide something is a waste, they will decide it is the best thing in the world. I haven't done the boiled egg with my guys either, for the same reason, but they are happy to eat the egg and biscuit mixture that I make up for Bluey............mostly to pick the little black seeds out of it, lol.

Here's an old Eggfood recipe its a simple basic mix that's stood the test of time, modern recipes are usually only a variation on the ingredients. To make more, just double up the ingredients. 1. You will need 6 eggs & a 300g pack of Digestive biscuits 2. Boil the eggs 15 to 20min or so. 3. Crush biscuits to crumbs. 4. Chop the eggs into small pieces. 5. Crush shells to powder, add to eggs. 6. Add biscuit to egg a little at a time, mix until right crumbly consistency. Job done, divide into feed amounts & freeze the rest. I always used those paper Cup cake things. Can be fed up to twice a week, daily if breeding & raising chicks. If mixed with other ingredients, birds waste food searching for the items they like. I always fed every item ie, fruit/veg etc, in separate little dishes. So I learn what they like, will pick at, or don't like. Yours B. J.
