Age is important, but try anyway, I would.

great idea! seems very simple also! this is a lovebird chick that survived, no need to put them to sleep over just a splayed leg! this baby was very popular around the internet, especially deviantART, his name is pocky: emmil.deviantart.com/art/Pocky-leg-update-october-332305691pocky passed away after a little more than a year i think, but he was always the happy birdie and he did not die because of his leg splaying, as it was cured by another method if anyone's interested: plastic aid rings and little sandals! the sandals are just too adorable:

I think it needs to see a vet, it looks like it could possibly have a broken or dislocated hip. It's not splayed legs.

I am inclined to agree, it doesn't seem to be splayed legs, but I don't think a vet would help you any. It would be much easier if the video was longer, and we could see the chick in real life, of course ....... how long has it been like that? It might be a congenital thing, as the chick does not seem to be in pain using the leg .... or is it, do you know? To me, it doesn't look like a new injury, is all. I am afraid that a vet might just suggest that the chick be put down. Other than the leg, it seems in fine fettle, and I see no reason why it couldn't make a lovely pet for someone who is prepared to take the time to make sure its disability is catered for.

Thank you, it is good that I saw this before we applied any of the methods. I will see what I can do for it, and I can try to post another video tomorrow (well, in ~15 hours) to see if that can show any more hints. It doesn't seem to be in pain, so I am not inclined to think it is dislocated or broken. Thanks for your reply, since we are quite inexperienced with this being only our second clutch, and the first with multiple chicks.

Have you only just noticed this, or has the chick always had a strange gait? I guess as little pinkies you would not necessarily notice; only once it was starting to move about and apart from the others. Again, I don't think it seems to be in any pain, and am glad you think so as well. I am thinking more that it was always this way and at its age it is probably too late to try to rectify anyway.

I am staying with my sister in Spain, She had a budgie hatch about 9 months ago with what she thought was splaid legs. She didn't do anything. To me it doesn't look exactly splaid but he tends to sit on his knees with his claws up. He can climb up the cadge and down. I am getting him out if the cage and doing some gentle stretching physio to see if I can increase his movement. Am I barking up the wrong tree I wonder?

You can only try, but it would be a long road back to normality if the chick has been this way for nine months. Perhaps getting a vet's opinion would be worth while.

Is it normal for their legs to start splaying a bit when they get older? 2 of my budgies had splayed legs when they were hatched, and i noticed their legs start to splay a bit.
