I got this budgie today and I named him Zazu. Zazu has been really quiet since I got him which I understand but tonight when I was looking at him he looked really scared and I can't help but feel sorry for him. Could anyone give me their top tips on making your new budgie feel safe and happy?? And how long will it take for it to settle in? (Thos budgie is by its self) thanks!

It can take a couple of weeks for a new bud to settle in. Try not to stare at zazu, blink your eyes when you look at him/her as they can think your a preditor until they get used to you. Just talk really gentle and try not to stress them. I gave mine some millet the first night they come home as it was all new and scary. They will eat and drink but at first till the feel safe probably you may not see them. Good luck.

It is entirely normal for him to be feeling nervous at this stage. It may take weeks for him to start to feel more confident. Just spend time around him and talk to him softly. It helps if there is some background noise like a radio going when you are not around. When you look at him blink and wink in a noticeable way and this will tell him you're not a predator.

I had the same for ages. Bailey is only now getting really settled although he had been ok-ish after a while. He was so scared he let me stroke him as he was rigid. I used to spoon feed him water as I thought he wasn't drinking. He also wouldn't eat millet or out of the cage dishes. But as others have said, talk quietly in a reassuring way and e will be fine. Stick to a routine too when you do food and water or when you cover him at night etc. they like routines.
