Today was another one of those days.... I have had a few of them over the past few years.
Having had an horrendous cold since the funeral then complaining of chest pains a doctor was called on Saturday - prescribed antibiotics for a possible chest infection.. that's what I thought my mother had too.
This morning I asked our own surgery for a home visit for my 93 year old mum as the chest pains had worsened and become more persistent.
I have just left her at our main hospital 6 miles away having spent the day there with her while she had a battery of tests completed. The ambulance staff were very kind (getting to know them quite well) - there was a bed waiting for her thanks to our GP's pre-arrangements despite it not being an emergency admission.
My mum is more comfortable but distressed at being left. She is no longer in the Acute Medical Unit - moved to a side ward just before I left. A good sign.
She misses my dad, of course, and now has to do without me as I was not allowed to stay around through the night as I had nearly always managed to do when my dad was admitted in the past.
I'm confident that, medically, she is in the best place as the staff are pretty fantastic as is their care. I just wish I could have stayed with her through the night as she will wake and feel lost and alone.
I have to wait 13 hours before I can go in to see her - hell of a long time having spent the last few years looking after her and my dad everyday.
Here’s hoping the morning brings good news…. I could do with some.

So sorry to hear that all is not good with you or your mum, Learner. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Mostly, take the time to rest. No one looks after the carer, and they need it often as much as those being cared for. If you don't look after you, who is going to look after your mum?

Thanks for the message - our news is mixed:
My mother came home after one week in hospital - diagnosed with pneumonia and heart failure. She has made a slow but steady recovery. She is doing well thank heavens and enjoying being back home with me looking after her.
Last Wednesday evening my mother-in-law was rushed into A&E for emergency op in London and given a 20% chance of survival.
Against the odds she came through the operation thanks to the skill of the surgeon and someone looking down on us kindly. My wife is up in town looking after her father and visiting her mum. Our fingers remain fairly constantly crossed.

oh no.. so sorry you are all having a bad time but thank goodness, both mum and mum-in-law seem to be improving... so hard when you don't live round the corner either, I imagine
I hope they continue to improve
