Thank you BB, that is very interesting and educational. I had no idea there were so many different sizes, never mind feather quality. One question I have now, among many that are entering my head, is the character of a budgie affected by the breeding? Sure is OP , show budgies are bred to be very calm so they can be judged, your bird can be disqualified or marked down for not presenting itself(jumping all around the cage trying to escape). This is interesting, how is that achieved corie. Inca is a show budgie and she has always been very calm and steady, when i first had her she would puff her chest out and fluff her head feathers forward as if she was displaying for me.

Achieved by selective breeding over decades Skysmum. Inca was showing her pedigree. I love the calmness of show budgies, just makes life so much easier, as a show breeder we are constantly handling them and they trust us.

Also there are many other changes from size to feather quality and so on.

Thank you BB this is very informative. Are the last pair from a mix of small to medium or small to large, i cant decide. And the first two greens surely breeding would'nt be possible, would it From this information i would say Inca is medium and Chilli small, yes? And the caption...........I luuuuve you sister You're welcome The budgie on the left is from a normal pair, hence the normal pet/wild type budgie. The budgie on the right is from a mix pair, hence the medium size. But she took more from the pet mom and is not as big as her other sibling from the same clutch. It looks like Inca's parents were both show budgies, and she has not got much of their show quality and size. Mating and breeding is possible with size difference. I think I have a picture.

Thanks BB Cant help feeling a bit sorry for her Its the other way round with my two, but he is getting some practice in Well, I feel for her more when she has to stand on a higher perch or hang from cage wires to feed her chicks, because when they are fully feathered, they are bigger than the mum. And it is not possible for her to regurgitate food in their beaks from the same level. It's very funny to watch
