Thank you all so much! I took FinFin with me in the kitchen today, after we were done with eating and everything I put his cage on the kitchen table and showed him the water tap and he was chirping when he heard the water dripping Then for the first time I filled my spray bottle with a little warm water and sprayed him with that just a little, not to make him totally wet. The fact that he came to the front told me he liked it Now he is preening himself! and here 2 new photos in natural light in the kitchen on the table.

Thanks birdguhl and skysmum! I just gave him his 2nd drop of antibiotic, this time it went a little faster then yesterday, but he is very much moving around or at least tries to move away. But then I held his jaw with thumb & pointer finger so he couldn't move his head away and that was the exact moment for pumping the 0.02 drop in his mouth, he was actually biting at it, which made it easier to drop it inside his beak from the left side... I am very happy when this is over. 2 weeks of that. The clinic called me today to ask, how FinFin is! Great that they think about their patients!

Well done on your technique, tanja! It is pretty difficult to get meds into these guys.
It sounds like you have a good vet which is a huge help. To know that there is someone you have confidence in who you can go to when you are worried is really important. I know so well the feeling of being concerned about one of my birds and feeling anxious and ultra-watchful and generally awful until the decision is made to go to the vets. Then having that opinion and help not only takes care of the bird but allows relief from all that nagging worry. Even when your fears are confirmed and there is something wrong, and so the challenge of what needs to be done is presented, I find that much easier to cope with than the uncertain, anxious time.
So, again - good catch and good on you for being FinFin's champion!

Yes birdguhl you are totally right, the vet Dr. Berens was really a great help, she was so lovely and told me that she as well was living a long time in Germany, where I was born What a surprise, everybody in the states seem to have roots in Germany lol But I need to get FinFin to eat Harrison's pellets. The vet showed me a few before and after pictures of birds who are on these pellets and they grow back much healthier looking feathers, then birds on a seed mixed diet! I fed him these little pellets today by holding them on my flat hand and he was eating them! But when it comes to go down on his own to the food dish, he does only pick into them... Funny guy, I guess he wants to be fed by hand well at some point he will realize, that the stuff on my hand is the same as in his food dish

Re connections with Germany, I studied German for six years at school and although I didn't do very well at it (a rather poor reflection on foreign language teaching, I'm afraid), it is one of my goals in life to get to the point of being to actually speak it. I would love to live in Germany for a while. I have had two short visits to Berlin which I loved. I think part of me yearns to be there. Re the pellets, I use these dishes for both the germinated seed I feed my boys and the Harrisons: www.clipsleypetshop.co.uk/bird-feeder-premium-bird-breeding-egg-drawer-round-pack-of-25If you could find something like this, it could be a help. Most dishes are just far too deep. And as you probably know the recommendation with the Harrisons is that they should be fed in small quantities to keep them fresh rather than leaving them out for long periods. Re germinated seeds, forgive me if we've been over this ground before, but have you considered this? As well as being healthier, for my lot the fact that I was giving them germinated seeds seemed to make it easier to convert them to Harrisons because I ground up the pellets and mixed them in with the wet seeds (hence they couldn't avoid the taste of them) and then gradually ground them up less, and then dried the seeds more so the pellets were drier. Within 4 weeks they were all eating the pellets straight. With FinFin it does sound as if he likes being fed by hand, but it may be that he is eating the pellets from the dish more than you think. With the shallow dishes you get a much better idea of what is being eaten. Sorry for the rambles here. I shouldn't be awake at this time but I fell asleep during the evening and now I am not sleepy! This is a very bad habit but unless I had been on my feet I couldn't have stayed awake!

birdguhl hehe that is amazing, yeah if your dream is to go to Germany or even live there, you should. As it always was my dream to live in america and see where I am now? In L.A. I needed 25 years to make my dream become true and I even married here since then! It's amazing. If you love the cold and don't mind bad weather it's probably for you. I don't like the cold because I used to run around with a heating bottle in my arms all day long in winter in Germany RE. germinated seeds, what exactly is that and what do you mean with that? What am I supposed to do? Do you think it could actually even help to wet the pellets? Oh and because of these dishes. How do you put them in the cage? I mean how do you connect them to the cage bars? I would like to try them as these are much smaller and probably better anyway, I always have so much food in my dish that's unbelievable. And yeah not really possible to see how much was eaten.

I am wondering why the vet said Finfin should be converted to the pellets? Did she think he was overweight? I know pellets are very popular with vets in the US, but no answer as to why. And I do not intend this as a go at those feeding their birds pellets ..... usually as with birdguhl's ..... oh blimey, I can't remember who it is ...... Woody? with his fatty liver, Skysmum's Teddy etc, there has been a reason for getting them on to a much lower-fat diet. With Fin being so young still, I do wonder if this is a good thing to cut of seeds completely??? Like children need some fat in their diet, I would have thought the young birds would too. tanja, are you able to ask the vet this? Would be interesting to know what she says. Whether it is a standard thing they recommend to all bird owners, or specifically mentioned for Finfin.

Hezz I asked her exactly this, I asked her: "what do you recommend for the diet? Is seed in combination with veggies better or Harrison's pellets?" She promptly told me that many birds with seeds come in with a fatty liver disease so she tells everybody that it would be healthier to convert them to these pellets in combination with veggies, fruits etc. She does not really support seeds and also gave me for free a bag of Roudybush Crumble Premium Food.

Sorry, birdguhl. I didn't mean to jockey into your chat. So, tanja, it sounds as though it is a standard spiel they hand out to all bird owners. A bit of a shame really, that they don't support the birds getting any of their natural type of food, but that is my opinion, and I must stress that ..... it is my opinion, only. But at least Finfin is eating these pellets out of your hand, so it would seem you won't have too much trouble converting him, if that is what you intend doing.

birdguhl, thank you so much for the links, I will be checking them out in the morning, as it is already 7:28 PM here And I also will try to find out, if there are organic seeds directly for sprouting. If not I will buy them in a organic shop and mix them myself. Should work no? Hezz, well I read a lot of Harrison's pellets here and online as well before I went to the vet and it is amazing, that they as well support it. I mean FinFin loved his seeds, but really once they are on seed they seem to hate everything else. So even if I would give him both in the dish, he would always prefer the seeds before the pellets. BTW. I can't believe it, FinFin is like another bird suddenly, he was never crazy for millet that much, but now he jumps out of the cage and goes straight after it. He goes on my finger and munches his millet like crazy... I put him down on my desk and on my little table and he accepted it, at least he could continue munching his millet. here some awesome photos of that! OH and before I forget, he also sits on his play gym now. We just went out to eat something and I closed the door of FinFin's cage. When we came back and I opened the door he jumped right on it before I could put it down O.O what is going on? can it be the same bird, that was lethargic before the vet visit? It's amazing how he changed over night to come out on his own! *AWWW look what I found* *MUNCH* *MILLET!!!!* On mommy's desk and afterwards I made a mess with the husks when I flew off XD [ the feathers on his wings are like that, since he left the vet. Must have moved around a lot, when they handled him] *YUMMY - munch* He doesn't even care that his feet are not holding on the surface, as long he can munch his millet! lol His little play gym, finally he lands on it

Oh bless him, so good to see him playing happily. I hope he is still allowed millet on his pellet diet? He is loving it so much there!! I don't feed mine pellets so I don't know what the rules are, but remember he needs to be happy too
