Hi! I'm a third year BA (Hons) Photography student at UCA Farnham. I have started a project photographing budgerigar owners, after my grandma bought a budgie in June 2013 I have become quite fascinated with them! I am looking for budgerigar owners and breeders who would be willing to participate in my project, preferably located in the Surrey/London area. I have transportation for visits, and all participants will receive copies of the images taken. Here is an example of the work I have been doing... www.carlawhittingham.co.uk/1237165-budgerigarI look forward to hearing from you soon! Carla Whittingham carlawhittingham@gmail.com

Hi Carla! Welcome to the forum! But I think you may have posted this topic on the wrong board

Both your grandma and her budgie look lovely! An interesting project. I always think dog owners and their dogs have similar appearances. (Now to be shot down in feathers!! ) I wondered if you might have thought the same about budgie owners?
I am some considerable distance from your area so will pass on the offer of the photo-session but wish you the best of luck with the project.

Ira Thank you! Sorry I'm new to forums so I'm not sure where/how to post things and in which places! Learner Thank you also! She is absolutely in love with him! I agree about the dogs and their owners - perhaps it lies within the owners and which type of animal - whether it be budgie, dog, cat, any pet, their choice corresponds with what they are familiar with and chose something after their own looks?! Thank you for wishing me luck!

What a great project. I'm in Australia but I hope you get some people nearby who want to participate. The photo of your grandmother and budgie is lovely. You've just caught that moment. What's the name of her budgie? Have you seen the Australian painter, Ben Quilty's Budgerigar series? He painted huge budgie portraits in oils. You might like to see these; a Sydney photographer who had a show up the road from me a while back. They were photos of just the birds, not owners, but beautiful also. www.timolsengallery.com/pages/artists_details2.php?artist_id=422

Thank you mizloco ! And thank you stace ! What a gorgeous budgie in your photo!! I've not seen one of that colouring before. I've had a pretty great response so far via society websites and flyers in pet shops - but I'm still really hoping to find a lot more people who will participate! Thanks very much - her budgie is called Joey, he's fairly cheeky and picks up on all the funny comments! Thank you so much for passing on those references, they are such beautiful images. I'm yet to figure out how on earth to upload photographs onto this forum (major newbie with this kind of thing) but here a link to another photograph I took this morning of an exhibition budgie breeder - bit of a different slant from the pet owners, but I thought it may be an interesting aspect to photograph... www.carlawhittingham.co.uk/1237165-budgerigar#2

Reminds me of how my friends teenage girls asked me what kind of pet I owned (I said something about having a pet called Smokey but didn't say what he was). I replied to them to guess what Smokey was, and they said they thought I looked like a dog or a bird owner. I was very surprised they said a bird owner... bird owners are sort of uncommon in New Zealand.. most people here actually love cats!
