Hi sorry didnt have internet for a couple of days to update. Charlie got home the next day which even the vet was shocked about. they could only determine either he has a respiratory infection or there was something in the atmosphere that may have poisoned him. we are obviously quite disturbed to think we might have done somethhing wrong, we never spray or use any plug ins product etc in the same room. His table was next to the kitchen where it had always been we have no teflon, non stick pans and always cook with kitchen door closed and back door open. i was told by the vet spray oil can be poisonous which i do use so thats been put in the bin but we have no clue what it could have been.
Anyway Charlie is doing ok not 100 percent though he seems very frightened to venture about his cage which unfortunately means he is reluctant to go to his food but he is getting better, we also have hand fed him. his chirp seems a little as if hes got a sore throat, his balance has improved a lot but he still having a few moments where he wobbles. he seems to be shaking his feathers a lot still fluffing etc and hes back to being very nervous of us. im stressing over him still so any advice or suggestions would be great.

I'm so glad he is on the road to recovery! Don't blame yourself - it might not have been the atmosphere and even if it was you weren't to know.

Glad there is improvement and maybe he will just need a bit longer to get his bearings back. Maybe being at the vet has made him wary. So, do u have meds and need to go back or just keep an eye on him?

He has been given an antibiotic to put in his water for the next week. Took the decision last night to move him back to his small cage for a few days to stop him getting distressed about travelling in the big cage

If he is not normally the most confident character, an over-night stay at the vet's could be very distressing for him and may take a day or two to get over. Hopefully the AB's will work for him; you should see improvement in a few days' time. All you can do is do what you are doing, give him heaps of love, so he feels reassured, if he will feed on your hand, try feeding him this way, otherwise it is probably best he stay calm, and rests up .... an added bonus for having him in the smaller cage. Covering the cage up partly and keeping him warm may help him as well.

I'm so glad Charlie is doing better, you have had a terrible shock! Hopefully he'll soon be back to his usual chirpy self.. I think we sometimes don't know what has been wrong but can only keep learning as much as we can about how to keep our little buds happy and healthy along the way. I didn't know about spray oil before now - Pepito is not near the kitchen but still something to keep in mind all the same!
