I now have a burning question about quarantine. As both Whiskers and Joey are older buds and are free from any sort of gremlins or nasties that we know of, would I still need a quarantine period? I am thinking of both buds here. Obviously I would need to introduce them slowly and I can keep them in separate rooms, but proper quarantine would mean one or the other may lose out on the company they are used to. I feel like a newbie all over again. Thank you.

oh op this is fantastic news...i bet you are so excited, wow i am stunned (in a good way)... On the quarantine front of things ,if it were me ,then i would do it as the move may bring up issues in whiskers but as you know ,the others know a lot more than me so will give you a proper answer.... I am so excited for you all xx

I think a certain amount of quarantine is important OP, as Moogie says stress can sometimes bring out underlying things. I would def give it 2 or three weeks in a separate room and if things seem fine then introduce slowly in separate cages and this would only be because he is coming from a home where he has been the only bud. Naturally if he had come from a home with multiple buds it would have to be at least a month. It is hard but very worth it in the long run, we don't want to risk the health of our boy Joey. So exciting, i cant wait to see them together and follow progress .

Thank you Skysmum. Separate rooms will be no problem as I can have Joey in the lounge where he normally is and Whiskers in the kitchen. They are separated by proper doors so they are separate rooms. I am always flitting between the two for one thing or another. Joey has never ventured into the kitchen, but if he hears a friend in there it may be different. Of course I will take heed of what Whiskers is used to as it is bound to be different in my environment.

Yes I do get confused these days. I don't often have to put the two together, except for hospital, doctors appointments. I have found the offend date and corrected it. Sorry for getting you all excited Sam. Tuesday 15th is the day.

Well I thought that Geoff has enough on his plate and if I could relieve some of the burden why not get it done. Geoff obviously cares about Whiskers and has put a lot of effort into finding him a new home. All being well that will happen tomorrow.

OMG OP - I have just caught up with this thread too. How on earth did that happen without me knowing? You are such a kind person giving Whiskers a lovely new home and of course Joey as a friend. I am so excited for you. Have a very safe journey and let us know in due time how you get on. We will need all the details please!!

Personally ..... and don't be offended ........ I think you would be a fool not to quarantine, or ....... only a fool wouldn't quarantine! Unless you are prepared to take Whiskers of a vet for a complete battery of tests, you have no idea how good his health is, really. In my opinion a responsible person will consider the duty of care they are obliged to give to the resident pet/bird, in this case Joey, before allowing their emotions to get the better of them. 'Scuse me, rant over, I've had my say. The positive side to quarantining is that you get to know the newbie, and he gets to know you before the two birds themselves become (hopefully) inseparable. PS Quarantine isn't there for the bugs you know about - hopefully these would have already been taken care of. It is the unknowns who may raise their ugly heads ....... it is an "in case of", not a "because of".
