Ohhhh this has brought a tear to my eye OP, how lovely. These two were meant to be together and the fact that Whiskers is indeed feeding Joey is amazing in such a short time . Ain't love grand

Thank you everyone for the positive comments. I did not think that Joey would succumb to the advances of Whiskers like he has. Most of yesterday he was fighting Whiskers off with the menacing open beak lunge. But Whiskers just wanted someone to preen, he is of that nature, and wasn't taking no for an answer. In the end, well, you have seen the result. As soon as the cover went on last night there was a bit of toy banging and wing flapping so I knew they were settling down. They did within a few minutes. When Whiskers was on his own he would roost on top of the wooden tower thing, that's where he roosted last night. Joey roosted in his favourite spot on the highest perch. They were both in those places when the cover came off. A little pile of poop under each of them told me they had a restful night. They are now sat on opposite perches looking at each other after having their breakfast and a drink of water. It is wonderful. Thank you all again, The blog will continue because I must get Whiskers finger trained. I have to break his fear of the finger. He can fly now, not very far but can gain height. He will step up onto a perch when in difficulty. I need to convert that into the finger in place of a perch. This is exactly like I had to do with Joey, only Whiskers is more frightened of the finger. Something has happened in his past that has done this, now I need to gain his trust.

I have just found out why Whiskers is not flying too well. I found two flight feathers and the tip of another in the cage when I cleaned it out. The picture shows where the flight feathers have come from and the missing tip I have circled in red. I expect the flight feathers to grow back, but what about the damaged one, Will that have to wait until it too is moulted?

@op, I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying this thread, everyday I wake up thinking "I wonder what's the latest with Joey & Whiskers today?" Following their progress has honestly given me so much pleasure, it's a way of experiencing another birdy pal while having another bird here isn't possible (plus minus the associated stress! )

Thank you Starrymist, I'm glad it is giving you and many of our members pleasure. Unfortunately there isn't much to report today as they have been so tied up with each other noting else seems to matter. That's not quite true. After my breakfast and I Had cleaned out the cage bottom again I put the cage in the conservatory with the doors open. Yes they were just preening and feeding etc, so I took matters in my own hands and brought Joey out on my finger and put him on the gym, expecting Whiskers to follow. It seems that Whiskers is not that bright yet, he sat on the top perch right underneath Joey and was trying his best to get through the bars. I once again tried to get him on my finger, but he was all over the cage inside like a rat up a drainpipe. Eventually I corralled him out onto platform. He did take flight from there onto my head, well he was almost level with Joey, who was calling like mad. So I stood with my head against the side of the cage and Whiskers got the idea and jumped on the gym. I left them there for a while and thought I'll try finger training after all Whiskers is outside the cage now. What I did forget to do was close the conservatory doors to keep him within easy reach. As soon as I got near with my finger Wiskers was off straight into the lounge. Joey went mad, calling as loud as he could. Whiskers wasn't far because of the missing feathers and was easily retrieved on a perch. He is stepping up onto a perch now, with caution. He stayed on the perch whilst I walked into the conservatory and reunited him with Joey who by now had returned to the cage. That's where they stayed for the rest of the day. Whiskers has just been giving hell because I haven't put the cover on. I'll do it now.
