Hello all,
New to this forum but - sadly! - came straight to this health section first. Sorry if this turns into a long post!
So - my little baby Pixel (not so little - coming up for 6 in Sep) is getting a bit of a health history. She was tested for chlamydia at the beginning of last year and it came back negative. We'd taken her to the vets because she'd started wheezing and creaking and kept 'sneezing' to try and clear it. The vet came to the conclusion that her diet was part of the issue so I tried (and failed spectacularly) to get her onto Harrisons - though she does eat more veggies/fruit now she doesn't eat enough for my liking. Anyway - baby steps...
She was still wheezing (worse in the morning and at night) but as she was otherwise really healthy, we were advised to keep at the diet change and give her Avipro plus (pro/pre-biotic).
Recently we had to take her back as she suddenly became very sleepy, wasn't chirping, and seemed to be straining and scratching at her vent. It was a bit mucky but not too bad, though her poops were sticking to her feathers. The vet said that it was probably a bacterial infection, gave her an antibiotic injection, and gave us some Baytril to give to her. I genuinely thought we would lose her that night, she seemed so bad, but the next morning - she was chirping and full of beans! It did take a while to get back to normal but the change was amazing.
But - now she's displaying the same behaviour. Her poops had been a bit sticky but otherwise nicely formed - a bit light-green but properly formed. However this morning she's been really quiet and scratching/preening at her vent. The feathers are stained and she hadn't done a poop until about 20mins ago. When she did, it was wet and white but it seemed to perk her up a lot - she started chirping and flying about. But now she's just done another wet poop and gone quiet (she's currently sitting on my head, so she's not fluffed up in the cage). Difficult to tell the poop colour as it's on a minty-coloured towel. No proper faeces that I can see - more the white bit but it might be a bit greenish? I can try and get a pic if she'll poop on a paper towel. She hasn't done any other poops that I can see.
I think I'm going to have to take her to the vet again - I'm really worried it's not an infection but something more serious. I suppose it could be a recurring thing - or something stuck in her gut somewhere? She does chew everything she shouldn't.
Any help or advice would be really appreciated - obviously I will get her to the vet if this doesn't improve in the next half-hour/hour - or if it gets worse. But I wondered if there was anything I could try that might help her, aside from cleaning her vent (which isn't swollen or red) - if she'll actually let me catch her (she's still speedy enough to escape me!)
