Hopefully it is nothing too much, but I wouldn't get too complacent that it is just an off day. This isn't the first time for Lacey. But no one knows her the way you do ......... has she been stressed lately? As you know stress can cause all manner of nasties to raise their ugly heads.

Have been doing a little research of my own and I don't know if this may help as it could be either: Trichomoniasis is a disease caused by a microscopic motile (moving) protozoa called trichomonas (also known as canker). Birds can be treated with Ronidazole (Ronnivet-S) in the water for seven days. It has a wide safety margin. www.birdvet.com.au/exotics%20care/birdcare/Bird%20Facts%202%20Trichomoniasis.htmThe treatment of choice for trichomonas is Ronivet-S 60mg Ronidazole given for 7 days in the drinking water. www.allbirdproducts.com/articles/health/Trichomoniasis.htmlMegabacteria are large rod-shaped fungi. Birds can be treated with amphotericin-B (Fungillin) by crop needle or, in aviary circumstances, by an in water medication (Megabac-S). The treatment period is 10 days. Post treatment the droppings should be re-examined for megabacteria. A large percentage of the birds will recover but some may still die. www.birdvet.com.au/exotics%20care/birdcare/Bird%20Facts%201%20Megabacteria.htmPerhaps if you were to visit your vet who has proved useful to you for discussion/advice then maybe it can be remedied quickly? I do wish Lacey a speedy recovery

Also hoping for a speedy recovery for Lacey - it is such a worry when they are ill.

Sounds encouraging, Shirls. Maybe Lacey just had an off day. A little tummy trouble? I am not too sure budgiefriend so I am taking her to the vet 9.00 a.m. tomorrow. My usual vet is on holiday so we will be seeing another who apparently has 'some' experience with budgies. Thank you samwiseg, I have made a note of what you said and will be well armed for when we visit the vet.

She hasn't been stressed as far as I kknow Hezz, but who knows what stresses a budgie? Off to the vets tho tomorrow. I have taken on board what you said/quoted about megabacteria.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. Trichomonas will give her a fishy-smelling breath usually, which you haven't mentioned, so that probably is one thing you don't need to be concerned about. I hope the vet is able to give you some answers.

Mmmmmm. Well, vets? One wonders whether they know ANYTHING about birds!!!! Particularly budgies!!! The vet (a female) listened to my explanation about symptoms as well as the information on Megabacteria, etc., (can't spell the others!!!), crop infection and the like, she gave Lacey a thorough examination and decided that she had an empty crop (she hadn't eaten today) was underweight, and in poor condition, her cere was a strange colour!!!! I had to explain that her cere was that colour because she is in breeding condition and she has got coloured chops from the sweetcorn she had yesterday!!! OUT COMES THE BAYTRIL. I have got enough to give her for 12 days and she wants to see her again in 10 days time. Lacey has been quarantined to make sure she gets her meds, and has been on the go ever since we got back. She escaped through the seed pot area in the quarantine cage she is in, and sat on top of her home cage looking at me like she was saying 'Look at me mum, aren't I clever!!' Needless to say there is grit and seed all over my floor where she was trying to escape and I have had to cellotape the pot/doors up. She has been chirruping like mad in answer to Charlie, and to look at her you would think she is a really sick poorly condition bird NOT!! I will stop here before I really rant!

thats so frustrating!
before I took Bailey last year to the guy who does know about birds, I had emailed them with photos and asked for an opinion, obviously giving explanation too..
i just wonder, if you can find an avian vet online, and email to ask? not all will reply perhaps, but my guy did and eventually that is where Bailey is now registered etc.

So stoic just like dogs! Live for the 'now'! Bless them! Just reading about her 'escaping' made me smile. Some time back now, I found Sid sitting on my bed (upstairs!) and couldn't for the life of me figure out how he'd escaped as they cages were both shut and no escape routes or so I thought, until.....I noticed....yes I'd left one feeding pot empty and the little so so had got out there (I presume!) aren't they clever! Now I keep all the pots topped up, all the time I do hope your little Lacey gets well, honestly it's worse than having kids! All the best!

Even I know after only a few short months of reading through this forum that Lacey's cere is right for a hen in season as it were. I hope the baytril helps her. I'll make a note of everything samwiseg said as mine have similar symptoms. I'll update when I get back from the vets on Friday.
Yes Lacey that was very clever escaping that way!
