Just an update on Rosette. So she sounds so much better and is not touching the bottom of the cage (except to eat grit and paper towels) she only gets wheezy when I try to catch her now! Her eye is slowly opening more and more. I spoke with the previous owner and he said he thought her eye was just normally like that as the pet shop sold her to him like that! So, I am hoping it will open completely, though I am worried about permanent damage from the length of time she had the problem. Overall I think a great outcome! She is defiantly improving daily! Hey, get rid of the grit. Budgies can eat oyster grit (defined as soluble grit) but not straight grit (insoluble grit) - it's not good for them. Parrots don't need grit to digest their food like some other birds. Try to deter her from eating the paper towels as well. Maybe use newspaper. It seems to be less appetising to them, perhaps because it's not soft.

Was just about to suggest the same - you will find almost all on the forum use newspaper - far cheaper and safer for budgies, just remove a sheet a day So glad the Rosette is on the mend, she is far too pretty to be sick

Thank you for all the great advice. She is a beautiful bird! The grit said for parakeets, will it still make her sick? I will still remove it until I get an answer because I won't take the chance, but I just want to make sure before I stop giving it to them. I only have oyster grit for the new birds right now because it came in the cage, I will buy the correct one but it will be Friday as my vet bill kinda wiped me out this week. Will it hurt them to wait til Friday?

Budgies in the wild, and at home, will forage on the ground/floor for bits of grit. Soluble grit does not necessarily fulfill all their grit needs: have a read through this: www.budgie-info.com/budgie-digestion.html
