Our six year old budgie has been showing signs of ill health for over a year which have gradually worsened. He has had several months of different medications: The first vet visit was Baytril which seemed to help (or was it a coincidence as his symptoms come and go), then a second course of baytril as the symptoms came back. Then he went to an Avian vet and had Baytril and Nystan which was repeated as he still was not cured. Now he is taking Antirobe a tiny dose. But he is worsening again and not having such good weeks in between the bed ones. I am inclined to feel the Baytril and Nystan worked a little better (?) although is it all a coincidence its just his god week? I just don't know anmore-I feel totally confused and at a loss as to what to do next.
His symptoms are: squeaking, fast breathing, a sort of wretching and sneezing at times, he gets very fluffy and quiet, and recently he wants to snuggle into my hands or near my neck. I dso feel I should perhaps try the Nystan and Baytril again. I find it's hard to get meds into him consistently sand have tried forcing him to have it off the end of my finger but he gets cross and i don't want to distress him. Sorry this is garbled but I am feeling so anxious. He is such a lovely natured little thing and i don't want to lose him, but i don't want him to suffer either. Any advice will be greatly received. I am going to ring the vet tomorrow. Any similar experiences out there? Thank you. I just need to add that he also has a bulge on his abdomen and i cannot remember if the vet commented it might be a burst airsack, but i also wonder if it could be something more ominous. He also had black runny poos the first time we took him to the vet this has never recurred as bad.
